Mixing alcohol with other drugs

Mixing alcohol with other drugs – Long term effects of heavy drinking

Alcohol

Mixing alcohol with other drugs is not an option, it is complicated and life threatening. Seek for help immediately.

Whichever way you look at alcohol consumption you will be rest assured that up to 98% will be all negative effects – and in fact of the said benefits three quarters are concoction benefits with do not last for instance being talkative or gaining some level of confidence while under the influence of alcohol may be seen as a benefit but as soon as time lapses and sobriety resurface you lose the benefit instantly. I believe that from this introduction we can confess that alcohol is dangerous on its own and what about if the consumer mixes alcohol with other drugs? We are getting into that shortly but in the meantime let us look at some of the effects of alcohol alone without other drugs. People who drink heavily for a long time may experience the following:

  • Brain and nerve damage
  • High blood pressure and strokes
  • Liver disease
  • Damage to the fetus, for pregnant women
  • Diseases of the stomach, digestive system and pancreas
  • Breast cancer and throat cancer
  • Low sex hormone levels
  • Alcohol dependence

These are not experiences you would want to be associated with in life because they are not only bad but also life threatening. I will tell you without a second thought that if you’re taking alcohol then the best thing you can do for your dear life is to stop and seek help from the experts like doctor Dalal Akoury of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center for an expert opinion.
You may have not known but it is said that there are some limited benefits of alcohol consumption particularly to the people age 45 and above, this should not motivate you into drinking if you’re not. You must not start drinking to try getting some of these health benefits instead you should keep off drinking because you’re better off eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly and avoiding smoking.

Mixing alcohol with other drugs is dangerous

Alcohol and other drugs don’t mix and attempting this can be very fatal. For instance if you were to mix marijuana or club drugs (e.g. ecstasy, ketamine, GHB) with alcohol it will certainly be very difficult to make informed  and smart decisions. You will be in consistent problems with the authorities because you’re not in control of yourself. You are likely to get into dangerous situations, to be injured or to injure someone else in the process. I plain language mixing alcohol with other substances is life threatening. Doing this may trigger your body to react violently causing you pain, headaches, cramps or vomiting. This is the last thing you would want to do. DON’T mix alcohol with any other drug.

Legality of alcohol

Unfortunately alcohol is legal in as much as we are revealing the dangerous effects of this substances (alcohol) it is among the many addictive drugs allowed for human usage. The usage is limited to certain age bracket is a legal drug if you are of meaning that you can only use or buy alcohol if you’re within the legally allowed age. Currently in many nations across the globe the recommended age for drinking is 18 year though in some countries this limit can be up to 19 years or even more.

The law about drinking and driving

Many lives are unnecessarily lost on the roads globally due to drink driving. Studies have also established that alcohol is the major cause of many of these deaths and because of these nearly all states across the globe are taking this seriously by enforcing stringent laws to protect and save lives. Drink driving has become a serious criminal offence and driving with blood alcohol content of 0.08 % and above will land you in the wrong books with the authorities. Other general illegalities and penalties include:

  • To drive while impaired even if your BAC is less than .08 per cent.
  • Declining to provide a breath sample when asked by the police is also illegal.
  • Suspension of your driver’s license on the spot for 90 days
  • Separate criminal charges to face in court.
  • Also, if you are learning to drive and have a Graduated Driver’s License, you are not allowed to drive after drinking ANY alcohol.

These are just but a few rules and penalties applicable in most countries in an effort to bringing order on our roads. The same penalties and more are also applicable where one mixes alcohol with other drugs. To demonstrate the seriousness of this problem the authorities in Ontario have made even much harsher penalties to offenders. For instance if you are convicted of impaired driving more than once the penalties is as follows:

  • First conviction – your driver’s license is suspended for one year and a further $600 fine.
  • Second conviction – your driver’s license is suspended for three years and 14 days in jail.
  • Third conviction – your license is suspended for 10 years or for life plus 90 days in jail
  • Fourth conviction: such offenders will never own a driver’s license in Ontario soil again and they will still be sentenced to jail for another 90 days.
Reducing risks and getting help

Matters relating to alcohol abuse and drug addiction are very complicated and needs proper plan in the presence and for the future to stay safe. You may want to consider the following as guide:

  • Have a back-up plan for getting home (have money and a phone number for a taxi, or call your parents or a friend whom you trust).
  • If you drink at all, it is best not to drive at all.
  • When relying on others for a ride, make sure you know how much the driver has drunk before deciding to get in the car (this includes rides with adults, too).
  • If you drink, pace your drinks, have some non-alcoholic drinks too, and eat before you drink and while you are drinking.
  • Plan ahead for overnight stays. Make sure you know how much your friends are drinking and how they are getting home.
  • Don’t mix alcohol with medicines or illegal drugs. Check with your pharmacist to be sure.

In conclusion in everything you do your safety should come fast. Why must you go to jail for things you can deal with locally? I know it easy to say that you can easily deal with addiction matters but when it comes to the action part it becomes difficult, Dr. Dalal Akoury is an expert in this discipline and has been of help to many addicted patients the world over. Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol Consumption – How does alcohol make you feel

Alcohol

Alcohol consumption is legally allowed in all societies even though it is affecting our lives negatively. The sooner you get help the better.

I was sharing with someone struggling with alcoholism and it amazes me how he down played the real issues surrounding this substance. His comments were centered around what to him are the benefits he gets when he is drinking alone or with his friends. He was very happy with the short time feelings attributed to alcohol stating them one after the other like being calmer, relaxed, being talkative occasionally, less shy and less co-ordinated and even being warm due to the flushing of the skin occasionally. It is true that these feelings are realistic with alcohol consumption but burying one’s mind of the less effective happenings and leaving the most health risks is not being faire to yourself and to the society. Alcohol is not all about what has been shared the reasons why we are sharing every now and again about this substance is because alcohol may slow your reflexes, movement and thinking. It can make some people aggressive. For others, drinking can depress them or make them more depressed. When people are intoxicated (drunk), they may:

  • Have blackouts that is to say that they are losing their memory
  • Slur their speech or have trouble walking
  • Feeling sleepy or lose consciousness
  • Be more likely to have falls and other minor or fatal accidents
  • Get alcohol poisoning or even die in the process
  • Have slower reflexes and thinking
  • Take more risks and make bad decisions that could be life threatening.

It is true that you’re being persuaded to consider stopping your drinking habit for the benefit of your family and to the society as a whole which is in fact the right thing to do however do we have any consequences of stopping drinking or cut back instantly? The answer is a big yes. The truth is that those who have been into heavy drinking needs to pull out gradually and not instantly. The gradual pull out helps in reducing bad feelings and other serious physical effects and some of those feelings may include the following:

  • Feeling nervous and jumpy
  • Have sleep problems
  • Have tremors (the shakes)
  • Have seizures
  • Have hallucinations i.e. thinking that they are hearing or seeing things that aren’t really there.

These feelings are called withdrawal symptoms. Therefore;

Alcohol Consumption – How long do the effects of alcohol last?

We do not have specific time for everybody since different people responds differently to alcohol, it will certainly depend on how fast you get drunk, and how long it will take you to get sober, the variance will depend on the following:

  • How much you drink meaning what quantity you consume.
  • How quickly you drink. The speed with which you swallow your drinks.
  • Your sex, gender counts the way men and women get affected is not the same.
  • How tired you are
  • Whether or not you have eaten before drinking, it is always bad drinking on an empty stomach this affects negatively.
  • What drugs are in your body, when you’re taking alcohol alongside other drugs, you’re bringing in more complications to your life
  • Your body type, the effects of alcohol in your body may be different from that person struggling with his or her weight.

I want to draw to your attention that when we are talking about alcohol abuse it is important for you to know that your problems with alcohol consumption depend on the quantity of alcohol you consume. You will not be affected by the type of drink you take, this will be of no use, whether you drink beer, coolers, vodka, coolers, wine or liquor it is the quantity you take cumulatively.

Alcohol Consumption – The dangers and the law

You remember my friend I was talking to, when he was listing his reasons why he takes alcohol his list appeared to be positive all through which begs the question is alcohol dangerous? Of cause the answer is a big YES, alcohol can be dangerous in many ways like excess consumption will cause hangover – headache, feeling sick generally, vomiting and shakiness. Let us also consider the following conditions where alcohol consumption may be causing danger.

Alcohol Consumption – Pregnancy

It is advisable that any woman who is planning to get pregnant or pregnant already should talk to her doctor about alcohol and other drugs promptly. This discussion with your health provider will help you do the right things and prepare for the baby well. One fact that we should register in our minds about alcohol consumption is that there is no known safe level of drinking for a pregnant. A woman who drinks during pregnancy is more likely to have:

  • A miscarriage
  • To have the baby born prematurely
  • To have the baby born dead
  • To have other problems.

Alcohol consumption during pregnancy may cause the baby to be born with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) which means the baby may have physical abnormalities, behavior problems and other difficulties.

Alcohol Consumption – Breastfeeding

If a woman is breastfeeding, alcohol can be passed to her baby through the mammary gland milk which may have adverse effect on the baby’s feeding, its sleep and the general development of the baby. Pregnant mothers needs to take this seriously and consult with their doctors preferably a gynecologist or pediatric for the best medical advice that will help both the mother and the born or unborn child.

Finally alcohol is a very dangerous substance and being addicted to it even compounds the dangers. If you or anybody you know id struggling with alcohol you can seek for help from Dr. Dalal Akoury who is an addiction expert of many decades and also the founder of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center. Preparation for Weight Loss Plan

Preparation for Weight Loss Plan – What You should have in Mind

Weight loss

Preparation for weight loss is the starting point to getting rid of that excess fat you have accumulated

Over-weight is a global problem today with US being seen to be leading in over-weight population to the point of being more familiar with specific measurements related to health like cholesterol levels and blood pressure readings. To be safe with matters relating to health and especially if the risk is weight related the following fundamentals are very important:

  • The first is your actual weight in pounds
  • The second is your Body Mass Index, or BMI
  • The third is your waist measurement.

Your BMI is based on your height and weight which is the most weight measurement method preferred by many doctors than actual weight in pounds. It important to note that the medical terms for overweight and obesity are based on BMI values. For instance BMI between 25 and 30 is overweight and when it exceeds 30 then this is defined as obese. The individual’s risk of acquiring weight related illness like type 2 diabetes and heart complications is great with a high BMI value.

Preparation for Weight Loss Plan – Waist circumference

Body fat that gathers in the stomach area which are commonly referred to as abdominal obesity is more of a health risk than body fat that builds up in the buttocks and thigh areas and that is why your waistline make available very important information about your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes. Medical professionals consider a waist circumference to be too high when it is 40 inches or more in men and 35 inches or more in women. Therefore you will be lowering your risk of contracting these illnesses if you keep your waist circumference with the medically desired range.

Preparation for Weight Loss Plan – Consulting your doctor about controlling your weight

It is important that you consult with your doctor periodically about your eating habits and physical activities since these are very essential in helping you lose weight, improve your fitness and decreases your chances of developing heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, you should also ensure that you set realistic goals and you will be surprised how small changes can make a significant difference in your health.

Your doctor can offer practical suggestions that do not require a complete overhaul of your current way of life. In some cases, your physician may refer you to a nutrition specialist, such as a registered dietitian, for in-depth counseling about food choices. You may want to start the conversation by asking a few questions of your own. For example you may:

  • Ask your doctor for any educational materials e.g. brochures on topics such as eating habits, counting calories or physical activity.
  • Request to have your BMI measured and ask your doctor what it means with regard to your health status.
  • Have your waist circumference measured and discuss the significance of the measurement with your doctor
  • Be prepared to describe your current diet and activity level and what changes might promote better health
  • Visualize and quantify how much change you’re willing to make before you visit your doctor
  • Ask if specialists are available on your health plan and in your area, such as dietitians or physical trainers

Preparation for Weight Loss Plan – Metabolic syndrome

A high waist circumference can be one sign of a condition called metabolic syndrome. Although most people have not heard of it, this is a common syndrome affecting about one out of every four adults in the United States. Metabolic syndrome often progresses to type 2 diabetes and treating the syndrome can help prevent this form of diabetes.

Preparation for Weight Loss Plan – How to get active

Engaging in regular physical activity has been shown to help prevent several health complications like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and other chronic conditions. Maintaining good health in all adults and children is very essential irrespective of whether your weight is a problem or not. Lifestyle changes do not have to be drastic to be effective. Simple measures applied every day can make a significant difference over time for instance you may consider the following:

  • Increase whatever physical activity you are currently doing by adding 10 minutes a day, or increase the intensity from low to moderate. (See the box below for an idea of different activity intensity levels.)
  • Limit time spent online, watching TV and playing video games to less than two hours total per day.
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Park at the far end of the parking lot and walk to your destination, rather than parking as close as possible. You can also get off the bus one stop earlier and walk the rest of the way.
  • Do more household chores (such as dusting, vacuuming or weeding).
  • Walk or run with the dog and/or the kids.
  • Use an exercise machine (such as a treadmill or bike) while watching TV.
  • Take “active” vacations go hiking or ride bicycles.
  • Walk to do errands (such as to the grocery store or post office) instead of driving.
  • Buy a pedometer, which measures how many steps you take each day. Gradually increase your daily number of steps.
  • Don’t be embarrassed about exercising.
Preparation for Weight Loss Plan – Can diet pills and supplements help with weight loss?

Although diet drugs may help you lose weight at first, they usually don’t help you keep the weight off and may have damaging side effects. Most diet pills have not been tested by the Food and Drug Administration, which means you can’t be sure if the drugs are safe. Taking drugs also does not help you learn how to change your eating and exercise habits. Making lasting changes in these habits is the way to lose weight and keep it off. That is why I will highly recommend visiting AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center a facility founded by doctor Dalal Akoury who is and addiction expert of more than two decades and together with her team of experts they will help you get better in the most natural and convenient way by focusing on Neuroendocrine Restoration (NER) to reinstate normality through realization of the oneness of Spirit, Mind, and Body, Unifying the threesome into ONE.

Drug Addiction and Mental Illness

Drug Addiction and Mental Illness – Dual Diagnosis

Addiction

Drug Addiction and Mental Illness put together will bring your life to a halt. Seek for help and get your life back, it is possible all is not lost for you.

Dual means two and so when we talk of dual diagnosis we refer to a term used to denote people with mental illness and at the same time suffers from drug addiction and alcohol. The combination of the two is very complex and administering treatment to persons suffering from both mental illness and drug addiction is difficult and more complicated compared to when both were to be treated separately. It is very worrying that people suffering from mental illness are also struggling with drug addiction concurrently. The environmental factors greatly influence how people get infected with these two health conditions. For instance people with low socioeconomic status, military veterans and those with multiple general medical illness tends to bear more risk of abusing drugs, alcohol and other stimulants. Dual diagnosis is so common this day’s that statistics indicate that one-third of all alcohol abusers and more than one-half of all drug abusers are also battling mental illness.

Drug Addiction and Mental Illness – Relationship between substance use and mental illness

The relationship between mental illness and substance abuse or dependency is complex and is often considered in the following ways:

  • Drugs and alcohol may be used for self-medication. In such cases, people with mental illness may have untreated or inadequately treated conditions (such as anxiety or depression) that may “feel less painful” when the person is high on drugs or alcohol. Unfortunately, while drugs and alcohol may feel good in the moment, abuse of these substances doesn’t treat the underlying condition and almost without exception makes it worse.
  • Drugs and alcohol can deteriorate the underlying mental illnesses. This can happen both during acute intoxication (e.g., a person with depression becomes suicidal in the context of drinking alcohol) and during withdrawal from a substance (e.g. a person with panic attacks experiences worsening symptoms during heroin withdrawal).
  • Drugs and alcohol can cause a person without mental illness to experience the onset of symptoms for the first time. For example, a twenty-year old college student who begins to hear threatening voices inside of his head and becomes paranoid that his chemistry professor is poisoning his food after smoking marijuana could represent a reaction to the drug (potentially called a “substance-induced psychosis”) or the first episode of psychosis for this individual.

Drug addiction and alcohol always results in a worse prognosis for a person with mental illness. People who are actively using drugs are less likely to follow through with the treatment plans they created with their healthcare providers they are not likely to follow their medication regimens and may not be consistent in keeping their appointments. If this continues over time it may lead to more psychiatric hospitalizations and other adverse outcomes. Active users are also less likely to receive adequate medical care for similar reasons and are more likely to experience severe medical complications and premature death. Drug addicts with mental illness are also at increased risk of impulsive and potentially violent acts. Perhaps most concerning is that people who abuse drugs and alcohol are more likely to both attempt suicide and to die from their suicide attempts. Individuals with mental illness and active substance or alcohol abuse are less likely to achieve lasting sobriety. The consequences of their addiction may be lead to severe complications like having legal problems with the authorities.

Drug Addiction and Mental Illness – Treatments for individuals with dual diagnosis

As indicated above treatment for dual diagnosis is very complicated and it will be very important to first address any life threatening complications due to intoxication. For instance the following conditions may require immediate medical care in the confinement of a health facility:

  • Extreme cases of alcohol intoxication may necessitate prompt medical treatment and can result in death if not arrested in good time.
  • Use of amphetamines, crack, cocaine and other drugs can result in heart complications like arrhythmias, heart attacks, stroke and even death.
  • Use of benzodiazepines (e.g. diazepam, clonazepam), opiates (e.g., oxycodone, oxycontin) and other downers can result in extreme sedation and potentially death in overdose.

Drug and alcohol withdrawal can lead to medical emergencies requiring immediate treatment. This can occur when a person who has been regularly using a particular substance has become addicted to that substance (the body has become physically dependent on the substance) and abruptly stops using. The following may necessitate immediate medical care in the hospital setting:

  • Alcohol withdrawal can result in heart problems (e.g., arrhythmias), seizures or delirium tremens (an acute delirious state), all which can be potentially fatal.
  • Benzodiazepine withdrawal can result in tremors (shakes), seizures and potentially death.
  • Under normal circumstances opiate withdrawal is not considered to be life-threatening but it can be a very traumatic and painful experience.

It is important that those struggling with drug addiction and alcohol seek help through processes like inpatient detoxification either by admission to a hospital or a detoxification facility where appropriate medications can be done to avoid serious complications of acute drug and alcohol withdrawal. Scientific studies has established that psychiatric treatments very effective in individuals who are not actively abusing drugs and alcohol and therefore total healing from substance abuse must be achieved and once this is done the underlying mental illness may be more successful. It is important to note that mental illness treatment is more effective when the patient is sober though it can still be done along detoxification process. There are many working options for recovering addicts to help them keep on the course and to avoid relapse on drugs and alcohol like rehabilitation centers or supportive housing besides these you may choose to return home to your friends and family who can be helpful in supporting you to continue the efforts. This can be critically important as a significant majority of people will relapse into drug and alcohol abuse at some point in their lives, even if they are eventually able to achieve long-lasting sobriety. I will further recommend seeing an addiction expert from time to time for evaluation. Doctor Dalal Akoury who founded AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center is an expert of more than two decades and has been helping people globally get well from their addiction problems in the most natural way. This is one experience am sure you do not want to miss and so when you visit this facility doctor Akoury together with her team of experts will focus on Neuroendocrine Restoration (NER) to reinstate normality through realization of the oneness of Spirit, Mind, and Body, Unifying the threesome into ONE.
