Cancer prevention the better option for health

Cancer prevention the better option for health. This must be done by all means if we want to be free from the many chronic health conditions

Did you know that at least one third of all cancer cases are preventable? That is just about 33% of life saved. If there is anything we should put all our efforts on is the preventive measures. Prevention offers the most cost effective long term strategy for the control of cancer. What it means to prevent is to keep distance from and not allowing cancer to be anywhere near your life circumference. How I wish this was doable as the title indicate that cancer prevention the better option for health. There are however several things that we can do to keep ourselves safe from this chronic disease and doctor Akoury is going to be sharing with us some of the things we must avoid if we want to succeed in preventing the problem of cancer. Some of those that we must by all means avoid may include the following:

Cancer prevention the better option for health: Tobacco

Tobacco is the major cause of cancer globally and this in one drug that when avoided, a significant reduction of spread of cancer will be realized. Tobacco and cigarette smoking are the greatest enemies of human health. This habit does not only cause cancer, but it also came with other deadliest and life threatening conditions. And even though tobacco use is very addictive and very difficult to stop, it is not impossible to quit says doctor Dalal Akoury a medical professional of more than two decades. She continues to say that it is regrettable that tobacco use is the sole avoidable risk factor for cancer mortality globally and the statistics are not very encouraging. Available records indicate that tobacco use account for some 22% of cancer related deaths annually. And to be more specific in 2004 7.4 million cancer deaths were reported and out of this 1.6 million were directly related to tobacco use.

Cancer prevention the better option for health: Types of cancers causes by tobacco use

Being the major contributor, tobacco smoking causes many types of cancer, including cancers of the lung, esophagus, larynx (voice box), mouth, throat, kidney, bladder, pancreas, stomach and cervix. It is very worrying that up to 70% of lung cancer complication can be attributed to cigarette smoking alone. The condition is further complicated by second hand smoking commonly known as environmental tobacco smoke which has also been confirmed to be causing lung cancer as well in the nonsmoking adult community. And yet again there is this one called smokeless tobacco which is also referred to us oral tobacco, chewing tobacco or snuff which also causes oral, esophageal and pancreatic cancer. Up to this point you must have noticed that cigarette smoking alone has a chain of cancer types it is causing and you can imagine if we can succeed in preventing it. It will translate into good health without all these cancerous conditions.

Because tobacco use account for the largest share, we must all pool together to bring it to a manageable levels by all means. I am not promising that it will be easy, but the comfort we have is that it is not impossible. Therefore the starting point would be I identifying the right professional to help you through the recovery process. If you or anyone you know, a friend, relative, colleague or any of your loved ones is struggling with smoking addiction, then you are in the right place. All is not lost for you because doctor had seen this problem with many people before and she made a decision to a decision to create a medical center (AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center) whose main objective is to transform each individual’s life through increasing awareness about health and wellness and by empowering individuals to find their own inner healing power.

Our ultimate objective is to restore your life back to normalcy in the most natural way. When this is done, we shall have succeeded in reducing the risk of contracting all these types of cancer significantly and you will have your life to live it to the fullest.

Cancer prevention the better option for health: Alcohol use

The consumption of alcohol is another factor to consider when it comes to prevention of cancer diseases. Even though this is a legally allowable drug in all states, its continued abuse is causing serious life threats not just to the individual patients but also to the national economies of different states. And like I have already mention, alcohol use is a risk factor for many cancer types including cancer of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, liver, colorectum and breast. It is however very important that we appreciate that the risk of cancer in this case will be increasing progressively with the amount of alcohol consumed. Like for instance the risk from heavy drinking for several cancer types like oral cavity, pharynx, larynx and esophagus will substantially increase if the person is also a heavy smoker just as had been indicates above.

Even though men and women are affected differently in this way, the common denominator is that both are not free and so safety is not guaranteed. The attributable fractions vary between men and women for certain types of alcohol related cancer, mainly because of differences in average levels of consumption. For example, 22% of mouth and oropharynx cancers in men are attributable to alcohol whereas in women the attributable burden drops to 9%. A similar sex difference exists for esophageal and liver cancers. Finally your gender is not a factor here we are all vulnerable and we must all choose to be safe by all means.

Protecting your skin from the harms of the sun becomes the primary preventive measure anyone can take.

Therefore, the most important way of skin cancer prevention is to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s rays. This article’s objective is to give you tips on how you can protect your skin from the harmful effects of sunlight. And most importantly, it is very imperative to protect children from the sun. Remember that the skin of a child is more delicate and sensitive to sun damage than the skin of an adult. Proper care needs to be exercise at that tender age to avert any possibilities of contracting skin cancer in later when they become adults. This does not necessarily mean that you and your children won’t enjoy the warmth of the sun, no the sunlight has some benefits and so you can still enjoy sunshine and the outdoors. This article only aims to help you to do so in a manner that encourages skin cancer prevention.

Skin Cancer Prevention and the Effects of Sun Rays – Sun and Skin Damage

I have never seen anybody who doesn’t want to have a perfect skin complexion. Because this is a common denominator to all, doctor Akoury is explaining certain facts to put more emphasis on the effects of sun rays to the skin. Too much exposure to sunlight is harmful and can damage the skin. Some of this damage is short-term like sunburn. However, permitting your skin to burn consistently in such unfriendly weather can lead to future complications like skin cancer. The damage is often caused by the two main types of ultraviolet (UV) sunlight namely UVA and UVB.

  • UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin, damaging the skin dermis (the middle layer).
  • The dermis contains the elastic tissues that keep the skin stretchy.
  • UVA rays therefore have the effect of ageing the skin and causing wrinkles.
  • UVB rays are absorbed by the epidermis (the top layer of skin). This causes sun tanning but also burning.

It is important to note that both UVA and UVB rays will intensify your risk of developing skin cancer. Receiving sunburnt is a pointing sign that you are putting yourself at risk of contracting skin cancer. Also remember that damaged skin cells also points out that you’re at greater risk of becoming abnormal and cancerous.

Skin Cancer Prevention and the Effects of Sun Rays: Melanin

Melanin is the colour pigment in our skins. When skin is exposed to sunlight, more melanin is produced to help protect the skin against the UV rays. This makes the skin darker what people refer to as a suntan. Although melanin stops your skin burning so easily, it does not prevent the harmful effects of UV rays.

Most skin cancers are caused by too much exposure to the sun. This includes:

  • The non-melanoma type of skin cancer
  • The melanoma type of skin cancer

Non melanoma skin cancers include basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas. Sun damage can also cause other skin problems to develop. For example, it can cause premature skin ageing, such as wrinkles and loss of elasticity. It can also cause non-cancerous growths on the skin, such as solar keratosis

Skin Cancer Prevention and the Effects of Sun Rays – Who is at risk of skin cancer?

People of all ages should protect their skin, but it is even more vital to protect children. Although skin cancer is rare in children, the amount of sun exposure during childhood is thought to increase the risk of developing skin cancer in adult life. Children who have had episodes of sunburn are more likely to develop skin cancers in later life. The skin of children is more delicate and more prone to damage. Therefore, take extra care with children, and keep babies out of the sun completely.

If you have pale skin, red or fair hair, and freckles, you have the type of skin which burns most easily. This puts you at increased risk of sun-related skin damage and you should take extra care to protect your skin NEVER allow yourself to burn. If you have pale skin, you do not have as much protective melanin. Skin cancers, especially melanoma, are less common in non-white skin types. However, they can still occur, and sun protection is still important.

Other factors which can put you at more risk of developing skin cancer are:

  • Having lots of moles.
  • Having a history of a skin cancer of any type.
  • Someone in your family having a history of skin cancer.
  • Having albino skin. This is very white skin which has no melanin at all.
  • Having vitiligo. This is patches of very white skin with no melanin.
  • Scars on your skin from burns or ulcers.
  • A weakened immune system (being immunosuppressed.) This can be from an illness such as HIV or AIDS, or from certain medication which affects the immune system.
  • A job which involves you being outdoors most of the time.
  • Living in a hot country, particularly if you have naturally pale skin.
