Working with interventionist to defeat drug addiction

Working with interventionist to defeat drug addiction is one formula that is applicable in fighting drug addiction

It is never news any more these days when the media makes an announcement that several people died after intoxicating themselves with illicit drugs. It is becoming normal and the question I ask is why? When we lose one life should we be comfortable that it is normal? Yes it is true that the prevalence of drug addiction is seriously on the high. But this is not reason enough for us to condemn the victims because we are becoming used to the daily occurrence of substance abuse. What are you doing to help? As for doctor Dalal Akoury doing something however little is worth the effort. Do you remember the words of mother Theresa in her effort of helping the needy in ASIA? What about the phrase “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step?” the fact that the prevalence of drug addiction is sky rocketing is not reason enough to sit back and do nothing. Working with interventionist to defeat drug addiction is one element that we can all do or better still you can chose to show some kindness to those individual addicts who feel embarrassed and humiliated because of their addiction. We had started this discussion in our previous article and we want to progress with it to have a better understanding on how working with interventionist would help in defeating drug addiction.

Working with interventionist to defeat drug addiction: Working with an Interventionist

Substance abuse is not an isolated issue. From the available statistics, experts at AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center have established that about 46 percent of the population has reported using illicit drugs at least once in their life time. The implication of that finding is that so many people including members of your family are at risk of this problem of drug addiction. Therefore if drug and/or alcohol abuse is interfering with the life of someone close to you, it is important to understand that addiction is a chronic disease that affects not only the brain but also the central nervous system. As a result of psychological and physical dependency, the individual is typically unable to voluntarily stop using the substance on his or her own. The danger is that when addicted individuals are confronted by their loved ones, they commonly respond with denial; it can be hard to admit the truth of their addiction. With is problem at hand, doctor Akoury says that a professional drug interventionist can assist you in orchestrating a meeting comprised of people closest to the individual to try to help the addicted person admit his or her substance abuse and seek treatment.

Everything that takes place within an intervention is facilitated and supervised by a professional interventionist. One of the ways the interventionist can assist is by preventing a breakdown of communication. The interventionist will often meet with family members and friends of the affected individual prior to the intervention. During this preliminary meeting, the entire group will work together to design an approach. This may include preparing individual letters that detail personal experiences or describe pain that has been caused by the addiction explains doctor Akoury.

Working with interventionist to defeat drug addiction: Is Intervention Necessary?

Although some addicts do recognize the problems their addiction has created and seek treatment and recovery on their own, this is not the case with everyone. Many people are unable or reluctant to recognize that their substance abuse is responsible for the problems they are experiencing at work, with their health and in their relationships. In some cases, individuals suffering from substance abuse may blame circumstances or other people for the problems they are experiencing. When this happens, a trained interventionist can help to break through this cycle of denial and help the individual recognize the effects of his or her substance abuse. If you are uncertain whether an intervention may be necessary for your loved one or family member, consider the following warning signs of addiction that may indicate the need for an intervention:

  • Significant changes in weight
  • Poor personal hygiene
  • Fights with friends and family members
  • Promises to get help that are not kept
  • Withdrawal from family functions
  • Untruthful accounts of their whereabouts
  • Accusations of petty crimes
  • Denial of drug and/or alcohol use

Drug addiction Intervention Services and Interventionist Options: What is a Drug Intervention Program?

To start with, it is always good to understand what we are talking about for us to have a flow in the discussion. It is therefore very important to appreciate that even though the services offered by different programs may vary, drug intervention programs classically offers a comprehensive course of treatment tailored to provide individuals who are involved with drugs with knowledge, the education and life skills they need to overcome their addiction. Such drug intervention services may also include resources necessary for resisting substance abuse in the future along with violence and crime. The available statistics indicate that up to 18 percent of federal inmates have admitted that they committed crimes in order to obtain money to purchase drugs. Going by those statistics, it is evident that drug addiction is no nonsense thing and that is why the application of drug addiction intervention services and interventionist options becomes necessary.

Besides that doctor Akoury say that drug intervention services often begin with a calm and objective approach that result in a coordinated treatment for the substance abuse. Nevertheless it is good to note that even though drug intervention programs are often viewed as a way of confrontation with someone drug abuse, there is much more than confrontation to such programs. Take note that one of the most important elements in these services is the inclusion of a third-party drug interventionist who is trained in drug intervention as well as drug addiction rehab and recovery treatment. Doctor Akoury reiterates that this is a crucial element since drug-involved individuals may not be willing to listen to even their close family members. The problem of denial is a very big impediment in drug addiction treatment.

Intervention for substance abuse is just one part of a comprehensive program that is aimed at identifying and treating each patient’s individual form of drug abuse. There are very many treatment methods some of which we have discussed in our previous articles. However the first step in this method is to work with the patient to help him or her acknowledge his or her own substance abuse and self-destructive behaviors. Besides that it is also very important for the patient to admit the extent of the problem. Remember that when someone is coping with an addiction problem, one of the most difficult aspects of obtaining help is simply admitting that he or she has a problem. It therefore means that if we are to overcome this problem, then we have to pool together and fight drug addiction from all direction. Take note that together we win and divided we fall and we can’t afford to fall. Therefore if you have realized that a substance abuse problem is causing problems in your life, or if any of your friends or loved ones is struggling with drug addiction and they are exploring the possibility of enrolling in a drug rehab for treatment, then that is a step in the right direction and you can call us today at 843 213 1480 for a more professional input on their lives and yours too.

Addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment

Addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment: The implications of denial

Addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment

Addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment is just the beginning of the long journey of drug addiction solution

Almost everybody today is aware of the problems that are associated with drug addiction. The worry is, even with the knowledge of addiction, the problem seems to be gaining ground day in day out. The time has now come for all of us to support the campaign that is wording towards addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment by all means. We spoke to one of the veteran experts in addiction doctor Dalal Akoury about this and this is what she had to say. In her line of duty doctor Akoury acknowledges that the prevalence of drug addiction is worrying and very little is being done at least in relation to other diseases. Noting that there is a gap, Dr. Akoury made a decision to create a medical center whose main objective is to transform each individual’s life through increasing awareness about health and wellness and by empowering individuals to find their own inner healing power. Dr. Akoury’s practice focuses on personalized medicine through healthy lifestyle choices that deal with primary prevention and underlying causes instead of patching up symptoms. This is one of the mile stones in addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment and the sooner you get the problem solved the better not just for you but to the whole family and even to the society. And now let us get into the discussion of finding out the remedies of some of the known challenges.

Addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment: Long-Term Residential Treatment

One of the ways of addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment is by taking the long-term residential treatment that provides care 24 hours a day. This is generally in non-hospital settings. The best-known residential treatment model is the therapeutic community (TC) with planned lengths of stay of between 6 and 12 months. The focus of this is on the “re-socialization” of the individual and uses the program’s entire community including other residents, staff, and the social context as active components of treatment.

In most cases addiction is viewed in the context of an individual’s social and psychological deficits, and with that treatment will focus on developing personal accountability and responsibility as well as socially productive lives. Under this concept, treatment is highly structured and can be confrontational at times, with activities designed to help residents examine damaging beliefs, self-concepts, and destructive patterns of behavior and adopt new, more harmonious and constructive ways to interact with others.

Addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment: Short-Term Residential Treatment

Short-term residential programs provide intensive but relatively brief treatment based on a modified 12-step approach. These programs were originally designed to treat alcohol problems however during the cocaine epidemic of the mid-1980s many began to treat other types of substance use disorders. The original residential treatment model consisted of a 3- to 6-week hospital-based inpatient treatment phase followed by extended outpatient therapy and participation in a self-help group, such as AA. Following stays in residential treatment programs, it is important for individuals to remain engaged in outpatient treatment programs or aftercare programs. These programs help to reduce the risk of relapse once a patient leaves the residential setting.

Addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment: Outpatient Treatment Programs

Outpatient treatment varies in the types and intensity of services offered. The cost of treatment is minimal than residential or inpatient treatment and often tailored for busy people with jobs or extensive social supports. It should be noted, however, that low-intensity programs may offer little more than drug education. Other outpatient models, such as intensive day treatment, can be comparable to residential programs in services and effectiveness, depending on the individual patient’s characteristics and needs. In many outpatient programs, group counseling can be a major component. Some outpatient programs are also designed to treat patients with medical or other mental health problems in addition to their drug disorders.

Addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment: Individualized Drug Counseling

Individualized drug counseling not only focuses on reducing or stopping illicit drug or alcohol use; but it also addresses related areas of impaired functioning such as employment status, illegal activity, and family/social relations as well as the content and structure of the patient’s recovery program. Through its emphasis on short-term behavioral goals, individualized counseling helps the patient develop coping strategies and tools to abstain from drug use and maintain abstinence. The addiction counselor encourages 12-step participation (at least one or two times per week) and makes referrals for needed supplemental medical, psychiatric, employment, and other services.

Addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment: Group Counseling

Many therapeutic settings use group therapy to capitalize on the social reinforcement offered by peer discussion and to help promote drug-free lifestyles. Research has shown that when group therapy either is offered in conjunction with individualized drug counseling or is formatted to reflect the principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy or contingency management, positive outcomes are achieved.

Addressing the challenges of drug addiction treatment: Treating Criminal Justice-Involved Drug Abusers and Addicted Individuals

Finally many at times drug abusers come into contact with the criminal justice system earlier than other health or social systems, presenting opportunities for intervention and treatment prior to, during, after, or in lieu of incarceration. Research findings have shown that combining criminal justice sanctions with drug treatment can be effective in decreasing drug abuse and related crime. Individuals under legal coercion tend to stay in treatment longer and do as well as or better than those not under legal pressure. Studies show that for incarcerated individuals with drug problems, starting drug abuse treatment in prison and continuing the same treatment upon release in other words, a seamless continuum of services results in better outcomes: less drug use and less criminal behavior. And remember that in all matters relating to drug addiction treatment, you will need an experienced professional in drug addiction to help you with all your concerns. You could want to schedule for an appointment with doctor Dalal Akoury today for the commencement of your recovery.

The complexity of drug addiction treatment

The complexity of drug addiction treatment: The prevalence of drug addiction

The complexity of drug addiction treatment

The complexity of drug addiction treatment can be very costly if preventive measures are not taken timely

The complexity of drug addiction treatment is as complex as the addiction itself. Professionals at AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center says that drug addiction is a multifaceted disorder that can encompass virtually every aspect of an individual’s life functioning in the family, at work, school and in the community. When victims of drug addiction are in denial of their situation, it even becomes more difficult and frustrating to have the problem addressed with some degree of seriousness. In her over two decades of experience in this line of addiction, doctor Akoury says that because of addiction’s complexity and inescapable consequences, drug addiction treatment characteristically must involve many components. Some of those components will focus directly on the individual’s drug use while others, like employment training, focus on restoring the addicted individuals to productive membership in their families and society enabling them to experience the rewards associated with abstinence.

The experts in addiction are in agreement that treatment for drug abuse and addiction can be delivered in many different settings using a number of behavioral and pharmacological approaches. In the United States for example, there are more than 14,500 specialized drug treatment facilities providing treatment, counseling, behavioral therapy, medication, case management, and other types of services to people struggling with substance use disorders. These are worthy steps in handling the complexity of drug addiction treatment and more still needs to be done. Like for instance, alongside these patients needs to individually visit their physician’s offices for specialized treatment besides visiting mental health clinic for mental assessment and treatment. Such services are available if only the right personnel can be identified. When seeking for all these, it is important to note that treatment of drug addiction can be administered in various ways including in outpatient, inpatient, and residential settings. And remember that although specific treatment approaches often are associated with particular treatment settings, a variety of therapeutic interventions or services can be included in any given setting.

The complexity of drug addiction treatment: Types of Treatment Programs

It is true that everything we do medically should be backed by some research findings and that is why many studies on addiction treatment have classified programs into several general types or modalities. Nonetheless treatment approaches and individual programs continue to advance and diversify. With these advancements many programs today do not fit precisely into traditional drug addiction treatment classifications says doctor Akoury. Majority of treatment being administered normally start with detoxification and medically managed withdrawal which is considered to be the first stage of treatment. However detoxification being the process, by which the body clears itself of drugs, is intended to control the acute and potentially dangerous physiological effects of stopping drug use. Remember that detoxification alone does not address the psychological, social, and behavioral problems associated with addiction. This means that on it alone, it may not typically produce lasting behavioral changes necessary for recovery. Therefore detoxification should be done but must also be followed by a formal assessment and referral to drug addiction treatment.

Doctor Akoury says that since detoxification is often accompanied by unpleasant and potentially fatal side effects stemming from withdrawal, its management becomes very necessary and this can be done with the medications administered by a physician in an inpatient or outpatient setting which often referred to as “medically managed withdrawal. It is therefore very important to note that medications are only available to assist in the withdrawal from opioids, benzodiazepines, alcohol, nicotine, barbiturates, and other sedatives which can really ruin your life if not addressed in good time. And as a concern individual, if you know of anyone who is straddling with drug addiction whether they are in denial or not, you can be the bridge of help to them by scheduling for an appointment with doctor Dalal Akoury for commencement of their recovery journey. But in the meantime it is also important to note that AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center being one of the leading pioneers in natural and holistic addiction treatment, is not just working towards helping individual patients but also running programs tailored to meet the needs of professionals handling drug addiction patients.

The Philosophies of Drug Addiction Treatment

The Philosophies of Drug Addiction Treatment: Addressing some of the pertinent concerns

The Philosophies of Drug Addiction Treatment

The Philosophies of Drug Addiction Treatment includes all known remedies of treating all the chronic conditions related to substance abuse

A lot has been said about drug addiction in terms of creating awareness and offering solutions to the ever increasing problem globally. And even though several efforts to contain this problem are underway, a lot more needs to be done. In our effort is dealing with this problem, we have chosen to continually inform the public through this plat form and other media about the magnitude of the problem we have found our self in all in the name of drug addiction. In particular, we want to focus on the philosophies or drug addiction treatment and respond to some of your concerns in the most direct and professional way says doctor Dalal Akoury MD and also the founder of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center which is one of the leading pioneers in natural and holistic addiction treatment. We have aligned several questions which when all are responded to, then you will be well equipped with all the necessary tools you need to defeat drug addiction says doctor Akoury. Meanwhile as we get into the discussion you may want to talk to doctor Akoury for more insight on matters relating to substance abuse, the opportunity is available and you can schedule for an appointment with her anytime of your choice.

The Philosophies of Drug Addiction Treatment: Is there a difference between physical dependence and addiction?

In response to this concern the answer is definitely yes. Drug addiction or compulsive drug use despite harmful consequences that comes with it, it is also characterized by helplessness and difficulty in quitting the use of the drugs in question; failure to meet work obligations and set deadlines, social responsibilities and family obligations; and occasionally and depending on the drug tolerance and withdrawal. The latter is a bit sensitive as it reflects on physical dependence in which the body familiarizes with the drug thereby demanding for more of it to achieve a certain effect of tolerance and eliciting drug-specific physical or mental symptoms if drug use is abruptly terminated (withdrawal). This is about drug addiction and on the other hand physical dependence is different in the sense that it can happen with the chronic use of many drugs including many prescription drugs even when taken as instructed by the physician.

It therefore means that, physical dependence alone does not constitute addiction however it is an accompaniment of addiction. This distinction can be difficult to differentiate, particularly with prescribed pain medications, for which the need for increasing dosages can represent tolerance or a worsening underlying problem, as opposed to the beginning of abuse or addiction.

The Philosophies of Drug Addiction Treatment: How do other mental disorders coexisting with drug addiction affect drug addiction treatment?

Doctor Akoury says that drug addiction is not just a chronic problem but one which affects the brain quite frequently alongside other mental disorders. The magnitude of this problem is evident according to the available statistics that in every 10 people struggling with drug addiction, 6 will also be suffering from another mental illness and the same is replicated for users of licit drugs like tobacco and alcohol.

For these individuals, one condition becomes more difficult to treat successfully as an additional condition is intertwined. Thus, people entering treatment either for a substance use disorder or for another mental disorder should be assessed for the co-occurrence of the other condition. Research indicates that treating both (or multiple) illnesses simultaneously in an integrated fashion is generally the best treatment approach for these patients.

The Philosophies of Drug Addiction Treatment: Is the use of medications like methadone and buprenorphine simply replacing one addiction with another?

No. Buprenorphine and methadone are prescribed or administered under monitored, controlled conditions and are safe and effective for treating opioid addiction when used as directed. They are administered orally or sublingually (i.e., under the tongue) in specified doses, and their effects differ from those of heroin and other abused opioids.

Heroin, for example, is often injected, snorted, or smoked, causing an almost immediate “rush,” or brief period of intense euphoria, that wears off quickly and ends in a “crash.” The individual then experiences an intense craving to use the drug again and again to stop the crash and reinstate the euphoria.

The cycle of euphoria, crash, and craving sometimes is repeated several times in a single day is a hallmark of addiction and results in severe behavioral disruption. These characteristics result from heroin’s rapid onset and short duration of action in the brain.

In contrast, methadone and buprenorphine have gradual onsets of action and produce stable levels of the drug in the brain. The good news about this is that, patients maintained on these medications do not experience a rush, while they also significantly reduce their desire to use opioids.

If an individual treated with these medications tries to take an opioid such as heroin, the euphoric effects are usually dampened or suppressed. Patients undergoing maintenance treatment do not experience the physiological or behavioral abnormalities from rapid fluctuations in drug levels associated with heroin use. Maintenance treatments save lives they help to stabilize individuals, allowing treatment of their medical, psychological, and other problems so they can contribute effectively as members of families and of society.

The Philosophies of Drug Addiction Treatment: The role in drug addiction treatment process

Exercise is increasingly becoming a component of many treatment programs and has proven effective, when combined with cognitive-behavioral therapy, at helping people quit smoking. Exercise may exert beneficial effects by addressing psychosocial and physiological needs that nicotine replacement alone does not, by reducing negative feelings and stress, and by helping prevent weight gain following cessation.

The Philosophies of Drug Addiction Treatment: The effects of drug addiction treatment in reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C (HCV), and other infectious diseases

There is no doubt that those individuals who are abusing drugs either through injection or other means are increasingly risking their life for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and other infectious diseases. Since these diseases are transmitted by sharing contaminated drug injection equipment and by engaging in risky sexual behavior sometimes associated with drug use. Effective drug abuse treatment will result in HIV/HCV prevention by reducing risky activities that can spread the disease like sharing injection equipment and engaging in unprotected sexual activity.

Finally the discussion we have heard in this article about the philosophies of drug addiction treatment is not the end of the problem of drug addiction, but just an opportunity we have given to you so that you are aware of some relevant information in containing the bigger problem. Even with this knowledge, it is still very important that you get to involve the services of a professional when it comes to matters relating to drug addiction. This is very important because no individual can go through the process of addiction recovery alone. Therefore you can use this opportunity to schedule for an appointment with doctor Akoury for assistance.
