Addiction

Why are there addicts?

The question is frequently asked: Why does a man become a drug addict?
The answer is that he usually does not intend to develop an addict. You don’t wake up one morning and decide to be a drug addict. It takes at least three months’ shooting twice a day to get any habit at all. And you don’t really know what junk sickness is until you have had several habits. It took me almost six months to get my first habit, and then the withdrawal indications were mild. I think it no exaggeration to say it takes about a year and several hundred injections to make an addict.

The questions, of course, could be asked: Why did you ever try narcotics? Why did you prior using it long enough to become an addict? You become a narcotics addict because you do not have strong enthusiasms in the other direction. Junk wins by default. I tried it as a matter of curiosity. I drifted along taking shots when I could score. I ended up hooked. Most addicts I have talked to report a similar experience. They did not start using drugs for any reason they can remember. They just drifted along until they got hooked. If you have never been addicted, you can have no clear idea what it means to need junk with the addict’s special need. You don’t decide to be afan. One morning you wake up sick and you’re an addict.

The attitude and conduct of drug addicts and alcoholics is wholly irrational until you comprehend that they are completely powerless over their force and unless they have planned help, they have no hope. There are millions of people out there who live this way, and their hearts are flouting just like mine. It’s okay to say, my kid is a drug addict or alcoholic, and I still love them and I’m still proud of them. Hold your head up and have a cappuccino. Take a trip. Hang your Christmas lights and hide colored eggs. Cry, laugh then take a nap. And when we all get to the end of the road, I’m going to write a story that’s so happy it’s going to make your liver smash. It’s going to be a great day.

Sometimes maybe you need an involvement. The experience can be a person or it can be a drug. The experience opens a door that was there all the time but you never saw it. Before maybe it blasts you into outer space.

It is difficult to feel sympathetic for the addicts. It is difficult to regard some bawdy drunk and see them as sick and powerless. It is difficult to suffer the selfishness of a drug addict who will lie to you and steal from you and absolve them and offer them help. Can there be any other disease that renders its victims so unappealing? Would Excessive Ormond Street be so attractive a cause if its beds were riddled with obnoxious little felons that had brought it on themselves?

Life is a series of baby steps along the way and if you add up these tiny little steps you take toward your goal, whatever it is, whether it’s giving up something, a terrible addiction or trying to work your way through an illness. When you total up those baby steps you’d be amazed over the course of 10 years, the strides you’ve taken.
What fascinates me about addiction and obsessive behavior is that people would choose an altered state of consciousness that’s toxic and ostensibly destroys most aspects of your normal life, because for a brief moment you feel okay.
Every addiction arises from an unconscious refusal to face and move through your own pain. Every addiction starts with pain and ends with pain. Whatever the substance you are addicted to – alcohol, food, legal or illegal drugs, or a person – you are using something or somebody to cover up your pain.

There is no life to be found in violence. Every act of violence brings us closer to death. Whether it’s the mundane violence we do to our bodies by overeating toxic food or drink or the extreme violence of child abuse, domestic warfare, life-threatening poverty, addiction, or state terrorism.

If we want to address global warming, along with the other environmental problems associated with our continued rush to burn our precious fossil fuels as quickly as possible, we must learn to use our resources more wisely, kick our addiction, and quickly start turning to sources of energy that have fewer negative impacts.
We are taught to consume. And that’s what we do. But if we realized that there really is no reason to consume, that it’s just a mind set, that it’s just an addiction, we wouldn’t be out there stepping on people’s hands climbing the corporate ladder of success.

Understanding Alcoholism In Detail

Facts about Alcoholism That You Need To Know

AlcoholismHave you got the facts about alcoholism or prefer to just keep moving with the drunk mob?  As you walk into a pub each evening after job in the name of having fun, keep in mind that you might be putting a whole lot of aspects of your life to risk. The fleeting fun of sharing bottles and renting the air with loud laughter with so called pals might turn out to total catastrophe. You may never see it coming until it actually enters your life without knocking. Not really, it actually knocks severally but you never listen, your attention and addiction to alcohol is too overwhelming to allow any sense into you.

The two bottles multiply to five a day and the number grows rapidly, you then develop alcoholism. A condition that if you someone could take you behind its true scenes, you would really regret. Alcoholism can be defined as a chronic and usually progressive condition that involves being preoccupied by alcohol. The result is always mental disorder and compulsive behavior.

Below are facts about alcoholism everyone should keep in mind.

  • Alcoholism and your other half

Do you love him or does she mean the whole world to you as you say? Well, maybe you do love and truly she means a lot to you, but then love is jealous and gentle. The moment you stray away from your relationship and fall in love with alcohol, you get only inches away from losing him or her. Turning up late on his birthday with a bottle on your hand looking unkempt and properly drank might just be embarrassing. Choosing to go out with pals for a drinking reunion instead of staying with him every time, for the night might go beyond his expectations about you.

The whole relationship begins losing its clear edges because you get very angry when drunk and keep shouting. They begin thinking you don’t love them, yet you truly do, only that alcoholism has taken the better of you. You may end up losing them if it entirely gets out of hand. Watch out.

  • Alcoholism and your well-being

Some health facts about alcoholism on your physical and mental health might be so scaring. You risk losing a liver and that could be so detrimental. Alcoholism could also cause mental illness in extreme cases. Medics have also proven that alcoholism could result into high blood pressure. Furthermore, amazing statistics link alcohol to over fifty different diseases. Don’t be deceived, though in most cases the symptoms and complications develop and start showing overtime, the fact is that some people are more vulnerable to these ailments than others. You never know what your body is like, the only solution is to avoid alcohol as much as possible.

  • Statistics and research about alcoholism

Research and statistics carried out by health professionals, some from New Frontier Medicine academy, prove different things about alcohol. Below are some amazing facts about alcoholism;

  • Most grown-ups consider moderate drinking to be; one bottle for female, two for male.
  • Alcoholism affects different old folks in unique ways. Sluggish response, sight and hearing complications, and reduced forbearance to alcohol’s effects makes older people more prone to incidents such as accidents with cars, falling off and other forms of injuries that may come as a result from alcoholism.
  • Out of every five victims of alcoholism who try to quit the drug without seeking medical assistance lose their lives as a result of a condition known as alcohol withdrawal delirium.

Of all the facts about alcoholism, this one calls for caution if you are willing to stop the habit. Be cautious or you might lose it all.

  • Alcohol has a different effects in women unlike in men. A single bottle of the same brand impairs a woman almost twice as much as it does to a man. It doesn’t matter the differences in body weight. The determining factor here the level of water in the human body since alcohol is directly absorbed in to the system. Generally men have more water than women in their bodies hence won’t suffer more when under the influence of liquor.

This certainly means that women are prone to alcoholism than men are. Therefore women should avoid alcohol by all means.

  • This fact about alcoholism goes out to mothers and even fathers who care. It is never safe to take alcohol during pregnancy. Despite the fact that your baby runs the greatest risk of health complications, Research is yet to establish a completely safe level of alcohol consumption for pregnant women. Moreover, there is no need of putting an infant’s life in danger
  • Young people, teenagers below 15 years of age are twice as much prone to develop alcoholism and suffer its severe consequences.

Understanding Alcoholism in a New Perspective

Are You Suffering From Alcoholism? Find Out Here and Get Expert Help

alcoholism

Really! It’s time you take courage and address your alcoholism problem

Alcoholism is an eclectic term for problems with alcohol, and is generally used to mean compulsive and uncontrolled consumption of alcoholic beverages, usually to the detriment of the drinker’s health, personal relationships, and social standing. It is medically considered as a disease, specifically an addictive illness. In psychiatry several other terms have been used, specifically as alcohol abuse, alcohol dependence and alcohol use disorder which have slightly different definition. Alcohol misuse has the potential to damage almost every organ in the body, including the brain. The cumulative toxic effects of chronic alcohol abuse can cause both medical and psychiatric problem. Alcohol is part of many people’s lives and may have a place in cultural and family traditions. It can sometimes be hard to know when you begin to drink too much. You are at risk of drinking too much and should talk to your doctor if you are: A woman who has more than 3 drinks at one time or more than seven drinks a week. A standard drink is one can of beer, one glass of wine, or one mixed drink. A man who has more than four drinks at one time or more than fourteen drinks a week.

Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse? Where Is The Difference?

Alcoholism and alcohol abuse are due to many interconnected factors, including genetics, how you were raised, your social environment, and your emotional health. Some racial groups, such as American Indians and Native Alaskans, are more at risk than others of developing alcohol addiction. People who have a family history of alcoholism or who associate closely with heavy drinkers are more likely to develop drinking problems. Finally, those who suffer from a mental health problem such as anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder are also particularly at risk, because alcohol may be used to self-medicate.

You may not be able to notice when your drinking has intersected the line from moderate or social use to problem drinking. But if you consume alcohol to cope with difficulties or to avoid feeling bad, you are in potentially dangerous territory. Alcoholism and alcohol abuse can sneak up on you, so it’s important to be aware of the warning signs and take steps to cut back if you recognize them. Understanding the problem is the first step to overcoming it. Alcoholism carries many serious dangers. Heavy drinking can increase the risk of certain cancers. It can cause damage to the liver brain, and other organs. Drinking during pregnancy can harm the fetus. Alcoholism also increases the risk of death from car crashes, injuries, homicide, and suicide. If you want to stop drinking, there is help. Start by talking to your health care provider. Medicines, counseling, and support groups may help you to stop drinking.

Get help on quitting alcohol from addiction experts at New Frontier Medicine Academy

If you have alcoholism or you have a problem with alcohol, you may not be able to cut back or quit without help. Denying that you have a problem is usually part of alcoholism and other types of excessive drinking, if you feel that you sometimes drink too much or your family is concerned about your drinking, talk with your doctor. See your doctor even if you don’t think you have alcoholism, but you’re concerned about your drinking or it’s causing problems in your life. Other ways to get help include talking with a mental health provider or seeking help from a support group such as Alcoholics Anonymous.

  • Denial

Because denial is common, you may not feel like you have a problem with drinking or that you need help to stop. You might not recognize how much you drink or how many problems in your life are related to alcohol use. Be attentive to your family members, friends or workers mates when they ask you to watch on your drinking habits or to seek any medical help.

  • If you have a drinking problem, you may deny it by:

Drastically underestimating how much you drink, downplaying the negative consequences of your drinking, complaining that family and friends are exaggerating the problem, laming your drinking or drinking-related problems on others .For example, you may blame an ‘unfair boss’ for trouble at work or a ‘nagging wife’ for your marital issues, rather instead of looking at how your drinking is contributing to the problem. While at work, relationship, and financial stresses or issues happen to everyone, an overall pattern of deterioration and blaming others may be a sign of troubles. If you find yourself rationalizing your drinking habits, lying about them, or refusing to discuss the subject, take a moment to consider why you’re so defensive. If you truly believe you don’t have a problem, there should be no reason for you to cover up your drinking or make any excuses.

And Finally….

Underage drinking should never be a normal part of growing up. It’s a serious and persistent public health problem that puts our young people and our communities in danger. Even though taking alcohol is often glamorized, but for sure underage drinking and too much alcohol consumption can lead to poor academic performance, sexual assault, injury, and even death to our society.

Stop Drinking! It’s Killing You Slowly

5 Steps You Won’t Find Anywhere on How to Stop Drinking

Stop Drinking

Face the situation, a bottle won’t solve it

Has any of your young daughters or sons ever imitated your funny behavior when drank? Well that’s when it actually dawns on you that drinking is not one of the habits you should embrace. Habitually, human beings never realize their mistakes until they become aware of the situation then choose whether to respond, react or ignore it. Perhaps you have been under a spell of bottles, no day passes you on a state of full sobriety and your mind is set to keep drinking. Hell no! You can do without it you can stop drinking and live a healthy and decent life like you once did. Below are tips you won’t find anywhere else on how to quit alcohol.

  • Face the situation, a bottle won’t solve it

Recent statistics show that a number of drunkards took their first bottles when depressed or stressed up following a tight situation. Maybe your girlfriend left, you never met bill deadlines or ran into a mess that you felt only alcohol could cure. We live in a generation where problems are evaded rather than faced and solved. Psychologists have proven that most drinkers use liquor as a relaxation mechanism as much as others may view it as a dependency mannerism.

Either way, it doesn’t matter, you just have to stop drinking. Nothing comes on a silver platter and life is a mountain of stress and a valley of blissful moments. Be sure to begin climbing the mountain while you go down the valley smiling. In a layman’s language, find engaging things to do during tough times. Manage your stress using other means, share it out, seek assistance, and pray if you have faith instead of taking liquor just to sober up and find the problem a bizarre.

  • Heighten you self esteem

People often feel embarrassed after a long span of being titled a ‘DDO’ meaning Daily Drinking Officer. For that reason, your efforts to stop drinking might bear no fruits. No one can succeed on a wounded ego. Therefore, the only way to get back on your feet is to keep your head high and prove you really have quitted. Don’t go back to liquor to cure your bruised ego. Prove yourself equal to the task. Do things you never did as a father, so that all tongues speak of encouragement. Start small then grow big to a free non-drunker.

  • Fight against it

No pain no gain, the old adage goes! The pinch of not drinking a bottle or two to an addict is as painful as a scorpion sting, it could lead to death in extreme cases. In most cases quitting liquor never did go as simple as waking up and swearing never to drink again, especially for addicts. One good turn deserves a better one, the only way to refrain from beer, wines and spirits is by fighting the urge of drinking that comes with the poor habit. Habits are developed overtime and fighting them to victory comes bit by bit. As much as doctors or psychologists might do what they are best at and go further to prescribe you pills, resisting a bottle might be a hell of a task. The most imperative aspect of the steps to stop drinking is the mindset, your conviction that you can do without it, then surely u can do it.

  • Go for Hypnosis

Stop DrinkingResearch has it that hypnosis is among the most effective ways to help addicts quite the debauched habit. The program is short and less engaging with time and resources. As extensive programs with steps as many as twelve only help 3% – 7% of addicts, hypnosis boasts of a 77% transformation rate. This program not only helps you stop drinking but also assist you in recovering your lost self-esteem and tranquility.

Another way to go about hypnosis is by opting to do it your way. Self-hypnosis is just the best. It comes from within you. An individual simply gets fed up with the habit and jots down to the business of quitting it at all costs. Fighting it and not tolerating even the stench of liquor. It all starts from within you then you act your actions how you have made a decision. Don’t even say it. Just do it!
