Different effects of stress in human health: When it heart the most

Stress affects sexual function in very many ways as we have mentioned before on this link. It is also worth noting that sexual arousal is a parasympathetic nervous system response, whereas orgasm and ejaculation are a sympathetic nervous system response. According to doctor Dalal Akoury MD and founder of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center, when you have high stress, this stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, decreasing stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system and not allowing arousal to take place. Insulin is the only hormone that lowers blood sugar, whereas cortisol, epinephrine, norepinephrine, glucagon and growth hormone all raise blood sugar. Cortisol, epinephrine and norepinephrine are all stress hormones. This is how different effects of stress in human health will increase blood sugar, causing insulin levels to rise, to lower the blood sugar and ultimately causing insulin resistance.

Different effects of stress in human health: Gastrointestinal tract

Stress will also have effects on the gastrointestinal tract. It will decrease hydrochloric acid (stomach acid) and mucus production, slow the motility of the small intestine and increase the motility of the large intestine. When you have a decrease in stomach acid and mucus production, this will decrease the amount of gastric protection of the stomach. The high cortisol levels from stress will decrease immune function, therefore making it a favorable environment for Helicobacter Pylori to proliferate, and causing a gastric ulcer. If the small intestine is slower to recover from stress the motility is impaired and constipation results. When the large intestine is slower to recover from stress, motility is increased and diarrhea results.

Different effects of stress in human health: Threats of cardiac unrest

Stress will increase cardiac risk in many ways. It will increase blood pressure. It can increase cholesterol for production of the stress hormones as already mention. The stress hormones (catacholamines) are detoxified through methylation this could decrease the methylation capacity to detoxify homo-cysteine. High levels of homo-cysteine are very toxic to the cardiovascular system. As stated earlier, cortisol, epinephrine and norepinphrine raise glucose levels. The higher blood sugar level will cause the release of insulin. Insulin will increase cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides and decrease HDL. The increase in body fat caused by stress as already mentioned is another cardiac risk factor.

Cortisol has a half-life of 100 minutes meaning that if you are under stress and have a cortisol release, in 100 minutes you will have 50% of that cortisol still in your system, after 200 minutes 25% and so on. If you are under constant stress you will continuously have high cortisol levels and have the physiological responses of that cortisol. Finally and like had indicated that it will not matter the kind of stress that affects you. All have the same effects and the body response to them in the same way. If you are under any kind of stress, it would be very important that you look for immediate solutions to prevent other illnesses that may be triggered by stress itself. In this case, scheduling for an appointment with doctor Dalal Akoury would be the first step you can take towards getting lasting solutions for a better health thereafter.

Applying healthy diet in cancer prevention is an effecting treatment and preventive solution

Applying healthy diet in cancer prevention: Healthy living

When planning a healthy diet with cancer in mind, it is different from when you are doing the same for your daily feeding practice. For that kind of program to work effectively, it would be very important that you seek for the expert’s opinion. Doctor Dalal Akoury MD and also the founder of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center is just a phone call way for all your health needs. As you consider calling the following are some of the applicable suggestions and guidelines you can apply:

Shun from taking foods and drinks rich in sugar – Food elements like sodas, sports drinks, fruit drinks, cakes, pies, and cookies are very high in empty calories and fat and low in important nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fiber. They are not the type to go for under these circumstances.

Go for more of fresh produced foods of a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, peas, beans, lentils – A plant-based diet is made up of foods that come mostly from plants. Plant-foods are more wholesome and are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients (plant nutrients). Phytonutrients help to protect the cells in the body from damage and help boost the immune system.

Limit processed meats and red meats – Processed meats are generally smoked, cured or salted. Processing of cold cuts, sausage, bacon, ham and hot dogs adds cancer-causing substances like salt or sodium nitrite. Studies have linked eating large amounts of processed meats with an increased risk of colorectal cancer. Health experts recommend that red meats like beef, lamb, and pork should be limited to no more than 18 ounces a week. If meat is part of the diet, it is better to eat lean meats, fish, poultry, or beans. Cook by baking broiling, poaching or steaming, instead of frying.

Avoid alcohol – Women who drink alcohol should drink no more than one drink a day (no more than two per day for men). One drink of alcohol is 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1½ ounces 80-proof distilled spirits. Drinking alcohol can cause cancers of the breast, mouth, throat, esophagus, liver, colon and rectum. Studies show that the risk for breast cancer increases, when the drinking of alcohol increases.

Limit the use of salty foods and foods processed with salt (sodium) – Too much salty may increase the risk of stomach cancer as well as high blood pressure. Salt in the diet should be less than 2,400 milligrams a day; about one teaspoon. Cut back on the added in cooking, and avoid salty foods and snacks.

Avoid using supplements for cancer prevention – Taking large doses of supplements may have serious side effects, especially if taken with certain medications. Women should also avoid taking soy pills, unless a doctor approves. In certain cases, a woman may need calcium or vitamin D supplements to prevent osteoporosis (brittle bones), but this should be prescribed by a doctor.

Phytonutrients and antioxidants – Studies have shown that food items from the vegetation (plants) contain thousands of phytonutrients that may have cancer fighting benefits. Plant foods are rich in antioxidants like vitamin A, C, E and beta carotene. These include cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, collard greens, kale, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. Other excellent sources of phytonutrients are: Green tea, grapes, wine, berries, citrus fruits, apples, whole grains, soy, and nuts. Brightly colored vegetables and fruits are the best sources of phytonutrients. Since no single food can provide all of the health benefits to reduce cancer risk, it is best to eat a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans.

Stress management amidst busy schedule: Keep stress from ruining your life

Even though we are forced by circumstances to be working under very tight schedule, this must not be an excuse for us to be stressed up to the point of being unhealthy out of it. Because of that it is a fact that we’re all living with stress each day which brings us to the question how do you react to daily stress? Is stress management amidst busy schedule a problem to you? Let’s sample how people react to stress. For some people, life’s stressors cause them to become irritable, short-tempered, or unable to concentrate on their assignments and tasks. Others have sleep disturbance (trouble falling asleep or waking early in the morning with racing thoughts). And yet again there are those who react by eating a lot of junk food which has its own consequences (not forgetting that desserts is stressed spelled backward!). In all these we have some good news for you. Doctor Dalal Akoury MD and founder of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center says that it may not matter how busy your schedule may be, stress management is still possible because it is only by doing so that you will be able to keep it from ruining your life.

Stress management amidst busy schedule: Causes of stress

Stress is all about the many demands and pressures that we all experience in our daily lives. These demands may be physically, mentally, emotionally, or even chemically instigated. Beside the word stress actually comprises both the stressful situations known as the stressors and the symptoms you experience under stress, your stress response. One of the problems with stress is that it activates people’s sympathetic nervous system which then stimulates the release of stress hormones throughout the body. It is these hormones that gives you the energy and causes other changes in the body such as the “fight or flight” response.

Stress management amidst busy schedule: The fight or flight response

The “fight or flight” response makes your heart beat faster. You might feel very nervous, making it difficult to breathe. Short term, the “fight or flight” response causes changes that allow you to handle sudden stressful events. When you face fear or even recall a stressful or frightening event from the past the resulting hormonal changes super-charge your body to a state of high arousal which then compels you to react to situations. Nonetheless, long-term stress can be particularly difficult. When stress hormones stay elevated over time, there is a gradual and steady stream of harmful changes to the body. Long-term stress can suppress the immune system, which may lead to the development of diseases.

Finally stress can either be positive or negative, depending on the situation. Positive stressors (called eustress) may include an upcoming wedding, the holidays, or pregnancy. On the other hand, negative stress (called distress) results in the full-blown stress response. If continuous, negative stress can lead to loss of productivity, health problems, and exhaustion. And that explains why timely solutions would be necessary. Therefore if you’re that kind of person that suffers negative stress quite often, calling doctor Akoury today for remedial action would be the starting point.

Stress management guidelines for health perfection goes a long way in solving many complications including sexual health

Stress management guidelines for health perfection: The natural ways of dealing with stress

Because of the magnitude of what stressful life can do to your health, it is only reasonable that precusions are taken before things get out of hand. And in order to do things right, doctor Dalal Akoury MD and also the founder of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center is making the following suggestions that you can adopt as part of your stress management guidelines to help you unwind, de-stress, and get back the full control of your emotional state:

Sources of stress

The first most thing to do is to try figuring out what’s causing your stress symptoms. Maybe you are overextended (too many commitments) and feel fatigued and irritable. Once you identify the sources of stress, try to minimize these as much as possible.

Sharing out problems

It is said that a problem share is half solved. This can be very helpful, talk to somebody about what is happening in your life. Sharing with a friend, family member or a therapist if your stress level is too high is very essential. Remember that by getting your feelings out without being judged by others is very crucial to good mental health.

Take time out

Before you reach your breaking point, take time out for solitude. Take time to nurture yourself, away from the cares and responsibilities of the world. Find time for inner strength and emotional healing and always remember never hesitate to say “no” before you take on too many commitments. Especially if you are balancing work and family, it’s important to prioritize. Saying “no” can help bring your stress to a manageable level and give you more control over your life.

Stress management guidelines for health perfection: Try exhaling

Breathing can measure and alter your psychological state, making a stressful moment increase or diminish in intensity. Often, people who are anxious or upset take shallow breaths and unconsciously hold them. By paying attention to your breathing, particularly exhaling during tense moments, you will feel more relaxed. Buy a bottle of inexpensive bubbles (in the toy section at most stores), and use it to learn how to exhale slowly. Breathing from your abdomen, blow through the bubble blower with a steady stream of breath. If you blow too hard or too softly, you won’t get any bubbles. But smooth, steady breaths will produce a nice flow of bubbles. Use this breathing technique (without the bubbles) when you are feeling stressed.

Stress management guidelines for health perfection: Exercise daily

Exercise is thought to increase the secretion of endorphins, naturally produced substances in the brain that induce feelings of peacefulness. Many studies show that exercise, along with the boosted endorphin levels, really does increase confidence and self-esteem and reduce tension. Exercise also acts as a displacement defense mechanism for those who are “stressed out.” What does that mean? If you’ve ever walked for several miles, you know how hard it is to think of your problems when your mind is focused on walking.
