Why Poor Nutrition causes Addiction?

Understanding the relationship between nutrition and addiction is an important component for successful drug abuse recovery. Although many drug addicts become malnutritioned from their drug abuse behaviors, this issue is much deeper than you thought.  This article purpose is to expose to you that Why Poor Nutrition causes Addiction? Drug addicts are deficient in a variety of vital nutrients, which leads to physiological and psychological symptoms and imbalanced neurotransmitters in the brain that often result in the relapse. Thus, identifying and correcting these deficiencies is another important step in maintaining drug-free and long-term sobriety.

The role of nutrition and addiction have brings two sided adverse effects on each other. You find that drug addiction causes nutritional deficiencies, while on the other side poor nutritional cause drug addiction. Both addiction and nutrition have a reciprocal effect on one another that often makes addicts to relapse. Remember that your recovery will be much easier and long lived if you know that Poor Nutrition causes Addiction.

A poor diet lacking in vital nutrients, high in sugar or salt, refined foods and with environmental toxins that average people takes nowadays, often results in nutritional deficiencies. Contrary to most people’s popular beliefs and culture, minerals and vitamin deficiencies are quite common in our society. Their deficiency or lack of it can result into imbalances causing uncomfortable symptoms. Scientific research indicates that Poor Nutrition causes Addiction.

On the literal form, nutrients are needed in the brain to form neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are substances used by our brain to communicate with all body parts or relay messages within the brain. An imbalance or lack neurotransmitters such as GABA, serotonin, endorphins and dopamine have been found to be at the root of what causes alcohol and drug addiction. That is why Poor Nutrition causes Addiction because it causes lack of Amino acids the building blocks of all Neurotransmitters.

Why Poor Nutrition causes Addiction? is explained Below

The manufacturing process of these neurotransmitters, the body requires every nutrient with right amount to be present during the process of synthesis of neurotransmitters if the nutrients are lacking the neurotransmitter production is compromised causing imbalances leading to addiction and self medication. The lack of one or two of these nutrients during the manufacturing process can lead to failure of neurons in producing adequate quantity of neurotransmitters. This is explains why Poor Nutrition causes Addiction

You’ll want to read and understand alcohol and drug addiction and how to recover from the adverse effects caused by taking drugs. To achieve successful drug and alcohol addiction recovery, your body’s neurotransmitters must be brought into balance. Symptoms and Impact of Deficiencies explaining why Poor Nutrition causes Addiction?

Symptoms from a deficiency or lack of minerals, vitamins or amino acids may include hypoglycemia, depression, fatigue, anxiety, irritability, hyperactivity, learning disorders, cognitive dysfunction, insomnia, hypertension, memory problems, personality disorders, sugar cravings, heart disease, agitation, headaches, and many more. You will realize that that many of these symptoms, as a result of nutrient deficiencies, look extremely similar to the symptoms that an addict faces in their recovery experiences.

When your diet lacks proper nutrients that it needs, then your brain is out of balance in manufacturing and realizing neurotransmitters. You must understand the importance of these crucial chemicals in making your body feel relaxed, happy or normal. Lack of it or the imbalance of these chemicals in the brain can lead to depression, anxiety, sadness, tiredness, confusion and make one not to think clearly.

All psychotropic substances mimic the effects of your neurotransmitters and thus provide one with a temporary, but artificial boost. When neurotransmitters are not balanced in the brain, then we crave things like drugs, alcohol, sugar, cigarettes and caffeine to provide us with the feelings and relieve which we could otherwise get naturally.

Since most people are eating a diet that lacking in nutrients or deities that are toxic, nutritional deficiencies are usually present in the drug and alcohol addict prior to addiction. Actually this is one of the things that lead to substance abuse and eventually addiction. You find that our body doesn’t produce enough dopamine, GABA, serotonin or endorphins, and therefore taking drugs provides us with a temporary boost to those neurotransmitters. These drugs provide us with what we are missing. However, in the long run, the temporary stimulation of these brain chemicals only depletes them even further and leads to diverse problem of substance addiction.

AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center offers an NER a Neuroendocrine Restoration that replenishes targeted amino acids in an attempt to achieve quick and long term craving free without withdrawal recovery. That is how we address the fact that Poor Nutrition causes Addiction.

Weight Loss and Stress the Missing Link

Understanding Weight Loss and Stress

Weight loss and Stress are linked, it is hard to lose weight when– Stress…Is Everywhere! says Dr. Dalal Akoury

 Weight Loss and Stress

Understanding Weight Loss and Stress

Lets face it people, stress will always be in our lives… to a certain degree anyways.  It is almost a way of life in the 21st century.  Stress can be a major prohibiting factor to weight loss and can even contribute to weight gain.  Chronic stress can be tied to an increase in appetite and ultimately stress-induced weight gain.  It all starts in our neuroendocrine system.  This system activates a hormones in response to stress or life threatening situations.  The hormones released during this response is adrenaline, corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH), and cortisol.  Elevated levels of adrenaline and CRH cause a decreased appetite.  This result is usually temporary.  Cortisol on the other hand is there to support and replenish our body after the stressors have gone.  This elevated level of cortisol remains for a long period of time and tends to increase appetite.  For most people, increased appetite means increase in weight gain!

Weight Loss – Stress A Tyrannosaurs Rex  or a Late Electric Bill?

This response from the neuroendocrine system is doing what it is supposed to do but it was not designed for the 21st century stressors.  The increase in hormones was intended for life threatening situations such as, a tyrannosaurs rex trying to eat your entire family as it was in the time of cavemen.  The calories or stored food in the body we would have used to fight off the tyrannosaurs rex in the beginning of time is not being expended in modern day.  Now “we” mope around and fuss and dwell on our stressors and anger.  Eating has become our stress reliever.  At this point or neuroendocrine system is confused and has not received the necessary signals to know if we fought off that tyrannosaurs rex or not.  This causes us to feel hungry because the hormones are still being released to restore calories lost and our depleted food stores.

AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center team and Dr. Dalal Akoury reminds us that – Weight Loss  a ndStress – Cortisol and the Adrenals – are all connected

Cortisol is actually made in the Adrenal Cortex.  It controls the strength of our immune system, normalizes blood sugar, and regulates blood pressure.  This production is due to adrenal cortical stimulating hormone (ACTH) produced in the pituitary gland.  If the adrenals are producing to much of the cortisol, the motions for increased susceptibility to infections and cancer will occur, along with weight gain around the belly area and your immune system can be compromised.  Opposite of that, if too little cortisol is produced chronic fatigue can occur and so can exhaustion.  An overactive immune system could develop as could autoimmune disease.

Dr. Dalal Akoury founder of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center describes the Weight and  Stress connection – Let’s Correct That Cortisol Level!!

Weight Loss and Stress the Missing Link

Stress reduction is an essential part of all efforts to normalize cortisol. Stress is the stimuli that caused the cortisol levels to get out of hand to begin with. Each individual should explore and find the stress reduction techniques that work best for themselves. Meditation, physical activities, attitude changes, just to name a few are good paths to explore. Without stress reduction, therapeutic and support measures will ultimately fail.

Get plenty of rest.  Rest must be handled as a scheduled and straight forward strategy, choice, and course of action. That may sound obvious but how well do you really schedule your rest?  Otherwise it gets lost and forgotten in the high strung pace of life.

A low glycemic diet is also important. Sugar handling stress increases cortisol levels. Elevated cortisol, then disturbs the sugar handling situation, contributing towards the development of high insulin levels and possibly diabetes. Diet alone without stress reduction will not help you lose weight because weight loss and stress are connected.

 Weight Loss and Stress

Understanding Weight Loss and Stress

Nutritional supplementation is highly recommended in restoring normal cortisol levels. We suggest a Integrative Therapeutic Cortisol Manager.  Our product will support a healthy sleeping habit without using habit forming ingredients.  Due to the more normal sleeping pattern, the stressors associated with the unhealthy sleeping pattern will disappear.  Phosphatidylserine is the main active ingredient in our Integrative Therapeutic Cortisol Manager and is believed to facilitate the repair of the cortisol receptors in the hypothalamus. It is believed that the cortisol receptors get damaged by high cortisol levels reducing the ability of the hypothalamus to sense and correct high cortisone levels. Because Phosphatidylserine helps repair the feedback control apparatus, it is useful in correcting both high and low cortisol levels.

Another nutritional supplement that is necessary are adaptogen herbs.  Adaptogens are an entire category of herbs that assist the body in coping with stress by restoring hypothalamic cortisol receptor sensitivity.  A combination of these adaptogens are all researched for their effects on increasing stamina, mental alertness and work performance.

The AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center team and it’s founder Dr. Dalal Akoury  describe that Weight gain is caused by  Stress and Having Healthy SEX will help weight loss

The adrenals are a big deal in many people’s sex lives. People usually feel sexier on vacation when the stress level is down. They can relax and also make up their sleep deficit. Many couples complain that they are just too tired to be interested in sex. A great rule for rebuilding the adrenals is “rest is best.” I can guarantee that if one spouse is feeling fearful and anxious, he or she is definitely not feeling very sexy. Remember Weight loss and stress are closely linked.

All of the adrenal hormones, and all the sex hormones for that matter, are steroids. Steroids are made from cholesterol. You need good sources of cholesterol. Forget the margarine and only eat butter. Keep up a good protein intake, which will also provide good sources of cholesterol.  Remember, healthy sex equals healthy adrenals!

Irritable Bowel Syndrome? Can be cured naturally

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

How to cure Irritable Bowel syndrome naturally?

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder of the bowel without any organic pathology or disease. It presents with abdominal pain and abdominal distension associated with passage of stools or an alteration in the bowel habit. It may be diarrhea predominant or constipation predominant or changing from one to another. It is one of the commonest causes of hospital visits in young adults. Young women are affected 2 to 3 times more commonly than men. It is commonly associated with other disorders like chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and painful menstruation. Many of these patients have a history of sexual or physical abuse.

What are the causes of  Irritable Bowel Syndrome IBS?

The exact cause of IBS is not well defined but multiple factors are associated with its occurrence. The important factors include psychological stress, altered motility of bowel, sensations of abdominal viscera and luminal factors.

Psychological stress: About 50% of these patients have psychological factors which include conditions like anxiety, depression, panic attacks. Psychological stress is known to alter the intestinal motility and function. These factors contribute to the symptoms seen in patients with IBS

Gastrointestinal motility changes in Irritable Bowel Syndrome: People with diarrhea predominant symptoms have rapid movements in the jejunum or upper small intestine.  There is a rapid transit of intestinal contents associated with contractions of large intestine resulting in diarrhea. On the other end, in people with constipation, the transit time of intestinal contents is increased allowing more time for water absorption.

Abnormal perception of gastrointestinal organs: The bowel has an increased sensitivity to distension as shown by experimental inflation of ileum, colon and rectum with balloons. This is associated with alteration in the control of autonomic nervous system and is seen in diarrhea predominant IBS. There is an enhanced perception of intestinal and pain.

Infection: About 10 to 30% people develop IBS after an episode of gastroenteritis. Giardiasis may be associated. Changes in normal bacterial population of gut may result in minimal inflammation and increased fermentation and gas production.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Allergy: Allergy to certain components of diet like lactose or gluten has been proposed as a cause of IBS.

What are the common symptoms of this condition?

Gut-Dysbiosis-and-Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Gut-Dysbiosis-and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The commonest symptom is abdominal pain which is relieved after defecation. The commonest site of pain is lower abdomen over the left side. The onset is associated with a change in frequency or form of stool. The other symptoms include mucus in stools, diarrhea or constipation, bloating and abdominal distension. There is upper abdominal discomfort after meals which may be associated with nausea. An urgency of defecation may occur which may be followed by a sensation of incomplete evacuation. Straining at normal consistency of stools may be noticed.

Is there a natural cure for IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome ?

Yes, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, IBS can be treated with natural methods. It is important to reassure the person that there is no organic disease. A normal life span is expected and with psychological support this can be achieved. Other supportive measures include:

Detoxification: This is an important component of treatment. It helps in flushing out intestinal toxins to restore normal intestinal flora of micro-organisms. Colonic irrigation or cleansing removes all the waste, improves motility and relieves symptoms.

Restoration of normal gut flora: This can be achieved by taking probiotics. These are good bacteria which help in restoration of normal population of healthy flora in the colon.

Diet: Take a healthy diet consisting of 4 to 6 small meals. Avoid food which results in gas production. Dietary fibre supplements improve the symptoms of diarrhea or constipation. Certain types of fibre supplements result in more bloating, so they may be prescribed by the physician appropriately. People with constipation should consume more fluids. These people should also avoid caffeine and fatty foods. Those with lactose or fructose intolerance should avoid these products as it aggravates bloating. In such cases, care should be taken to supplement calcium adequately. Scientific studies have shown that consumption of gluten free diet results in significant improvement of symptoms.

Exercise: A regular exercise boosts the immune system as well as healthy gut function. It improves blood flow which washes away all the accumulated toxins in the intestines. Digestion of nutrients also improves.

Stress relief: Maintaining emotional well-being is essential for relief from IBS. A psychiatric consult should be obtained. Any psychiatric disorder should be assessed and treated. Many of these patients require a long term follow-up. Research has shown that an improvement is seen with the use of antidepressants. Other modalities of therapy with positive results include behaviour therapy, psychotherapy and hypnotherapy.

Influenza, Conquer naturally, Dr. Akoury

  Conquering the Influenza

AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center – Influenza Season is Serious Business – Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Conquering the Flu

Conquering the Flu

Influenza season is serious, particularly this year as the H1N1 (“swine”)

Influenza reached pandemic status throughout the world as of July, according to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

An average of 36,000 people die every year from seasonal flu, and 200,000 are hospitalized with serious complications. The H1N1 virus seems to impact a greater diversity of ages and has been of particular concern among pregnant women. Though not considered a high-risk group, H1N1 seems to prefer the under-25 generation. The CDC believes the elder generation may have developed a persistent immunity years ago to a similar viral strain, which still protects them and has rendered much of that age group immune to the current infection.

Like many viral infections, influenza is spread by touch, so easily and quickly runs through a population – be that a household or a schoolroom, a town or a cruise ship. A person is contagious from the day they become infected, before they are even sick, and up to a week or more afterward. Symptoms of this year’s H1N1 virus are similar to those of past years, and include fever and chills, cough, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, head and body aches, chills, and fatigue. Many have also reported diarrhea and vomiting. For most people, H1N1 causes mild symptoms, and they recover in a few days, though respiratory symptoms tend to linger. For some, however, significant illness – requiring hospitalization – and even death has occurred. It is definitely best to avoid becoming infected.

Dr. Dalal Akoury the Founder of  AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center  explains–  The InfluenzaVirus Remains Active –

Did you know that the Influenza virus can remain alive and active for up to eight hours on a doorknob or tabletop? Did you also know that the most natural cleaners (soap, hydrogen peroxide) are equally effective as the more toxic commercial cleaners? Do yourself a favor and use the mildest method possible – your immune system will thank you in the long run – and use it often on bedside tables, lamps, doorknobs, and bathroom areas. Wash dishes and linins daily while people in your home are ill as well.

As with other infections, many of the best ways to avoid getting sick are the easiest to do, and most are common sense. These include:

  • Cover nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze – and then throw the tissue away immediately.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, as these areas are most susceptible to germs.
  • Wash your hands often, especially after you cough/sneeze, touch someone (e.g., handshakes, hugs, etc), or visit public areas. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if washing is not available (rub until hands are dry).
    • Remember, effective hand washing requires soap, the friction of vigorously rubbing hands together for 20 seconds (that’s singing Happy Birthday twice), and running water to rinse it all away. Wash both sides of hands, between fingers, and up past the wrist.
  • Stay away from close contact with people who are sick. If you are sick, wait until your fever has been gone for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medication) before you go out or are around others.
  • Follow the advice of public health workers regarding school closures, and avoiding crowds as much as possible.

Dr. Dalal Akoury the Founder of  AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center  recommends – Know Your Risk Potential to get the Flu –

The groups generally considered high-risk during Influenza season are the very young, very old, and those whose immune systems aren’t

Conquering the Flu

Conquering the Flu

working properly. As mentioned, this year’s H1N1 seems to be affecting those between 5 and 25 and pregnant women, and SC is just now seeing rising cases of Influenza. Though usually a mild illness, there are warning signs that indicate a need for immediate medical attention. In children, very fast or difficult breathing, a bluish or gray cast to the skin, and not waking up or interacting with others are trouble signs, as are a general refusal to drink fluids, or being uncharacteristically irritable. If adults begin to suffer difficulty in breathing, shortness of breath, pain or pressure in chest or abdomen, dizziness, or confusion, they should seek immediate medical attention. Severe or persistent vomiting or symptoms that are gone only to come back worse than they were before are indications that medical care is needed no matter the age.

It is also important to be prepared in case you do get sick, when you will have to stay home for a week or so. Stock up on tissues, food, and liquids like tea and Emergen-C. If you need medical attention, be sure to tell the office that you have the Influenza, so you can be brought in the back door and avoid infecting others.

Dr. Dalal Akoury the Founder of  AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center  stresses that you should Enhance Your Immune System overcome the Influenza

Remember, an influenza infection typically lasts 5 to 7 days. The treatment at AWAREmed can substantially decrease this time, and make sufferers feel better as they recover. Among the modalities used at AWAREmed are those specifically targeted toward enhancing the immune system, and when the immune system is functioning at an optimal level, it is easier for the body to either fight off an infection altogether, or to get it under control more quickly. Argentyn 23TM is one such agent, one that uses modern scientific methods to deliver silver hydrosols in a sub-nanometer size. Homeopathy may also be used, which works much like a vaccine in a “like cures like” sort of way, as well as hydrotherapy, which calms the spirit as it enhances the immune system. IV nutrition can be an amazing treatment, whether to deliver much needed fluids or to administer disease-busting nutrients and the antioxidants to clean up the mess left behind. AWAREmed’s new  state of the art IV Meditation room offers a soothing atmosphere where patients can relax, be nurtured, and receive the treatments designed especially for the Influenza

It reduces hormone levels of estrogen and progesterone which causes breast cancer at a faster rate. Physically fit women have a better chance of surviving breast cancer than overweight or obese women.

Some basic exercises that would help would be:

–      Walking, jogging or hiking at a moderate pace for 30 minutes a day.

Women who are reaching menopause are estrogen dominant are more likely to get breast cancer. This hormonal imbalance increases risk of breast cancer. The omega 3’s and soy based foods help reduce the risk of hormonal imbalance.

– Also remove xenoestrogens:

They are chemicals that mimic estrogen in the body and are in pesticides and plastics. Cut back on processed foods because some common food preservations are xenoestrogen. Switch to organic meats because some of the hormones that are used to make most store bought chicken and cattle grow larger are xenoestrogens.
