Substance Abuse: Natural Treatment Care Model

A Continuous Care Model for Substance Abuse

Substance abuse

Substance Abuse

Drug and substance abuse is more prevalent in todays society than we think. Did you know that 1 in every 10 Americans are addicted? However, only 11% of that population actually receive the treatment they actually need. Addiction patients’ biggest dream is the day they will break the chains of their addiction to these substances. These proven therapies are a comprehensive intregravtive approach to addiction treatment for alcohol, and substance abuse.

Natural Healthy Detox NAD and Intravenous Amino Acid Therapy for Substance Abuse

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide often abbreviated as NAD is a metabolic co-enzyme and has the important job of structuring, repairing, and remodeling every cell in the body. These specialized enzymes require constant replenishment in the body. Unfortunately, alcohol and substance abuse prompt the human brain to reorganize, particularly on a cellular level. This process, neuroadaptation, is directly responsible for addiction-related brain damage and depletion of neurotransmitters. NAD IV therapy can be used to replenish the drained enzymes and target brain restoration. The intravenous amino acid therapy focuses on biochemical detoxification of the body and brain from the effects of addiction.

Liver Detox for Substance Abuse with Amino Acids

Liver is a vital organ in the body. In most cases the liver is exposed to toxicity that may impair its functions if necessary actions are not taken to clear the mess- detoxify it. Amino acids can be used in detoxing the liver and restore its health. There are several essential amino acids however these two are very important in detoxifying the liver; valine. This is necessary for muscle metabolism and the repair of tissues. It can be useful in the treatment of liver and gallbladder disorders. Another amino acid that is equally important in detoxing the liver is methionine. This amino acid aids in the production of sulphur, which is necessary for normal metabolism and it is also essential for the synthesis of hemoglobin and glutathione that fights against free radicals.

Exercise for Substance Abuse Treatment

Exercise plays a vital role in achievement of healthy wellbeing. The body is made up of muscles that need to be strengthened in order to support the health of the body. Through exercise the body gets detoxified through sweating. Exercise also improves the metabolic functions of the body. Exercise aids the liver in detoxifying the body therefore relieving the liver from the burden of accumulated filtrate of toxins from alcohol and substance abuse. Exercise also strengthens the heart and improves the flow of blood hence increasing the rate at which the waste products are removed from the body.

Meditation for Substance Abuse Treatment

Meditation is a vital part of healing your mind body and spirit. Meditation is promoted to have many health benefits. Meditation is a perfect way to detox the mind and restore calmness throughout the body. However, it seems it serves more than just restoring calm and detoxing the mind; it also detoxifies the liver. It is argued that when the digestive system works well there is less buildup of waste in the liver. Good digestion is received when the body, mind and spirit are in synchrony. Meditation helps the body, the mind and the spirit to have good communication and enables proper metabolic functions of the body which is vital in liver health.

Hormonal Restoration for Substance Abuse Treatment

As discussed earlier, hormones are vital in a person’s body. They are the chemical messengers that are secreted directly into the blood. Without these hormones certain vital functions of the body cannot be accomplished. There are hormones that are responsible for metabolic functions. Sometimes hormonal fluctuations may interfere with the metabolic functions of the body leading to a liver overburdened with toxins. In such a scenario hormonal restoration becomes necessary to restore the health of the liver and the entire body.

Psychoneuro-Endocrine-Immune Restoration for Substance Abuse

The neuroendocrine and immune systems communicate bidirectionally. The neuro-immune-endocrine interface is mediated by cytokines acting as auto or endocrine factors regulating pituitary development, cell proliferation, hormone secretion, and feedback control of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Restoring the psychoneuroendocrine immune system beefs up the security of the body to fight unwanted pathogens hence vital in protecting the liver after detoxification.

Adrenal Rehabilitation for Substance Abuse

Adrenal glands play a major role in the body as it is the site on which many hormones are produced. However, alcohol and substance abuse may affect the adrenal glands making it inadequate to perform its function of secreting vital hormones that will keep the body in perfect health. After detoxifying the liver, the adrenal restoration becomes a vital procedure to ensure good liver health as well as body health.

Continuing Care for Substance Abuse

Substance abuseAfter adrenal rehabilitation and liver detoxification, there is still need to continue providing care to those facing substance abuse. This will mean that he/she should maintain the good practices of health. It will also involve consolidating all the good practices that will keep he/she fit and away from issues with substance abuse.

Finally, you need more information to stay away from dependence on substance and drugs as these have crippled societies and that is why here at AWAREmed we are dedicated to finding the best solutions to addiction and substance abuse. Dr. Dalal Akoury (MD) helps any patient to be addiction free. Do not hesitate to call AWAREmed for help in managing type of addiction as well as other diseases.

Natural Body Restoration Before and After For Chemotherapy

Why you need to prepare for chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is a form of cancer treatment that makes use of drugs to kill the cancer cells in the body. Usually, the drugs are made of highly active chemical compounds that directly act on the cancer cells. The nature of the drugs and the way they function in the body presents a number of changes to a patient. Also, the fact that the treatment usually runs for a considerable length of time makes it necessary for one to be fully prepared for it. Therefore, it is important that a patient is fully prepared before chemotherapy is administered.

Ways of preparing for chemotherapy

There are several ways in which a patient can prepare for chemotherapy. The preparation usually follows some basic approaches.

Getting sufficient rest

It is important for one to get sufficient rest in the weeks that precede the treatment. The basic reasoning behind this is simple. Usually, one gets anxious and restless in the days prior to the treatment. Such an emotional state triggers biological responses in the body. When this happens, a person remains in an agitated state throughout the treatment. When the treatment is administered to a person who is already under emotional stress, the side effects of the drugs tend to be increased. It is therefore very important for one to get enough sleep in the weeks prior to undergoing the therapy.

Chemotherapy

There are several ways in which one can get enough sleep and rest. For example, there are special natural supplements which, when used, can help one sleep well and be fully relaxed before undergoing the treatment. Also, one can get some of the many herbals that are used to induce sleep in individuals. In general, using natural methods to enhance one’s sleep can play a vital role in helping a patient be fully relaxed before undergoing chemotherapy.

Being psychologically prepared

There is always the tendency of patients feeling extremely worried about the effect that the treatment will have on them even before undergoing it. Furthermore, the fact that chemotherapy is a complicated process that takes its toll on the health of a patient makes many people very worried about it. These two factors: fear and worry, can make a patient lose self composure long before the treatment is administered. Therefore, it is important for one to be psychologically prepared for treatment.

Good preparation begins with being fully informed of what chemotherapy is all about, how it will be carried out and the possible side effects that one should expect. This will help one to be fully prepared psychologically before undergoing the treatment.

Being physically prepared

As much as psychological preparation is important, one has to be physically prepared for the treatment as well. Physical preparation takes many different forms. For example, you need to increase your amount of intake of proteins. The reason for this is simple. Proteins perform the all-important function of rebuilding the body. This becomes a critical need in the course of treatment because the drugs used in the treatment kill both cancer and body cells.

Also, physical preparation takes the form of increasing the level of intake of water. This makes the body to be in the right form before one undergoes the treatment.

Why you need restoration after chemotherapy

After successfully undergoing therapy, one’s body is usually weakened by effects of the drugs. Furthermore, there is a buildup of toxic products that are produced by the action of the drugs on cancerous cells in the body. This makes it necessary for one to undergo a comprehensive restoration process after the treatment.

Ways of restoration after chemotherapy

There are several ways in which one can restore the body to its perfect condition after undergoing chemotherapy. The overall objective is to remove all the toxic products that accumulate in the body and repairing cells that have been damaged by the effect of the drugs. This can be done in several ways.

Taking the right kind of foods

Diet plays an important role in restoring the body to an ideal state of health after one has undergone chemotherapy. There are several foods that can help in this course. For example, it is recommended that one increases the amount of fiber in the diet. Fiber is important because it helps one to heal quite fast. Furthermore, the role that fiber plays in the process of digestion can be useful to a patient who has undergone chemotherapy because this will speed up the process of eliminating toxic products from the body. Therefore, one should eat foods that contain a lot of fiber like whole grains and different types of fruits and vegetables.

Chemotherapy

Physical Restoration Of The Body

Here, one needs to develop a good plan for physical exercise and stick to it. The importance of this is that physical exercise helps the body overcome drug-induced fatigue thus speeding up the healing process. One can start with light exercises and progress as time goes by.

Body restoration through the use of fluid

Fluids like water are important components of a body restoration program after chemotherapy. Fluids serve several important functions in the body. For example, they speed up the rate at which waste products are eliminated from it. Since chemotherapy leads to a buildup of toxins in the body, increased intake of fluids is very useful in removing such toxins.

Whether you are preparing for or recovering from chemotherapy, Dr. Dalal Akoury of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center will be of great help. Spending time with her either before or after chemotherapy will help you be fully prepared for the process and get over its effects, safely, naturally and fast.

Ebola And IV Vitamin C

Characteristics of vitamin c

Vitamin C is one of the many different forms of minerals that are required by the human body for proper functioning. Since our bodies are not able to manufacture Vitamin C, we need to provide them with sufficient amounts of the mineral for their proper functioning.

Vitamin C has been known for its effect as a strong antioxidant. Although humans can get their required amounts of Vitamin C from a properly balanced diet, this is hardly enough. The body requires much higher levels of this mineral than what is provided for in an ordinary diet.

How Vitamin C Can Be Used To Enhance Ebola Treatment

Although this is still a theoretical issue that is under investigation, there are several reasons that have been proposed on how an injection of Vitamin C can be used to cure Ebola Virus Disease. To begin with, scientists have been curious about the ability of Vitamin C to act against viruses. Generally, studies have indicated that large amounts of Vitamin C are able to kill a large percentage of viruses. This antiviral activity of the vitamin has been observed on different types of viruses over the course of time. Although this is an issue that is under investigation, it sounds logical to say that research in the area offers some hope of finding a cure against the disease along these lines of thought.

Vitamin C

Another reason as to why an injection of Vitamin C could be used to develop treatment of Ebola Virus Disease arises from the ability of the vitamin to inhibit the rate of growth of viruses in general within the body cells. Usually, viruses and other disease-causing organisms survive by rapid and uninhibited multiplication within the body of the host. Immediately after gaining entry into the body of an erstwhile healthy individual, viruses embark on a rapid multiplication process. This gives them the ability to colonize the body cells of the host completely. It is after this objective has been achieved that a person begins to experience the signs and symptoms of the disease.

Now that Vitamin C has shown the ability to limit the rate of multiplication of viruses within the cells of a host, this logic can be used to develop an effective treatment for Ebola Virus Disease.

Different forms of Vitamin C

When used to treat Ebola Virus Disease, Vitamin C could potentially be used in different other forms apart from the intravenous injection one. One common form is the powdered Vitamin C. The powered form could be easily dissolved in pure water and taken orally. However, there are important issues that shall need to be taken into consideration if Vitamin C is to be administered in this form. The first one is about the dosage. It will important for the right amount of the powder to be used at all times for overall efficacy. The second one is the danger of over dosage. Research has indicated that an overdose of Vitamin C produces a lot of undesirable effects on the body. It will be necessary to take precautions against possible overdose.

Another form in which a potential treatment against Ebola Virus Disease would be based is tablets of the vitamin. Currently, Vitamin C tablets are easily found as nutrient supplements. Their usage is not restricted to treating a particular type of disease but rather, is applied as a broad alternative form of treatment. The beneficial effects of Vitamin C in the body are the driving force behind the popularity of this form of nutrient supplements. Just as is the case with powdered form of Vitamin C, care shall have to be taken when using the tablets to ensure efficacy on one hand and avoid toxicity arising from over dosage on the other.

The Advantages Of Using IV Vitamin C

If developed into an effective therapy against Ebola Virus Disease, Vitamin C will most likely be applied to patients in the form of an intravenous injection. There are several advantages of this form of treatment. First of all, in many cases, the absorption of Vitamin C from the stomach has been found to be inhibited by a number of physiological factors. This makes the application of a large dose of the vitamin through the powdered or tablet form inefficient because abnormally large amounts of the mineral will have to be applied to patients. However, when the intravenous method is used, the problem of poor absorption of Vitamin C is completely overcome.Vitamin C

Secondly, when Vitamin C is applied intravenously, the desired dosage in the body of a patient can be obtained with relative ease. It is no wonder that many forms of treatment for chronic diseases are offered by this means. An intravenous injection of a drug is quite effective in that the drug is directly introduced into the bloodstream of the patient. This facilitates immediate and effective action.

Emergency Care

Doctor’s Responsibility in Emergency Care

The life of a patient should be respected and there are situations in which a patient must be attended to even if he is not able to pay. Doctors know this and so they strive to give help when these situations pop up. There are different kinds of sicknesses. Even in the context of drug addiction there are people who are seeking help to quit addiction while there are people who are at the verge of losing their lives due to drug overdose. In medical laws any patient who needs an emergency response has a right to be treated and even a drug addict who is at the verge of losing his life as a result of addiction is termed an emergency case and so should be treated just like any other person who might have had a road accident and is bleeding uncontrollably. Any person has a right to treatment at the times of emergency since without treatment the person may become disabled or may die.

Situations like cardiac arrest, heavy bleeding, profound shock, severe head injuries, and acutepsychotic states are some examples of emergencies.  Both public and private hospitals have a duty to administer medical care to a person experiencing an emergency. It is therefore in every doctor’s domain to treat a patient that needs emergency response failure to which he shall be legally responsible for the death of the patient.

If a hospital hasemergency facilities, it is legally required to provide appropriate treatment to a person experiencing an emergency. If the hospital is unableto provide emergency services, it must provide a referral for approriate treatment. Hospitals cannot refuse to treat prospective patients onthe basis of race, religion, or national origin, or refuse to treat someone with HIV or AIDS.

Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act

In 1986, Congress passed the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) (42 U.S.C.A. § 1395dd), which establishedcriteria for emergency services and criteria for safe transfer of patients between hospitals. This statute was designed to prevent transferring an undesirable patient to another facility.The law applies to all hospitals receiving federal funds, such asMedicare. The law requires hospitals to provide a screening exam to determine if an emergency condition exists, providestabilizing treatment to any emergency patient or to any woman in active labor before transfer, and continue treatment until a patient can bedischarged or transferred without harm. It also delineates strict guidelines for the transfer of a patient who cannot be stabilized. A hospitalthat negligently or knowingly and willfully violates any of these provisions can be terminated or suspended from Medicare. The physician, the hospital, or both can also be penalized up to $50,000 for each knowing violation of thelaw.

When a patient needs emergency attention he should receive it since if it is delayed there might be a loss of life. Therefore if a doctor is asked to attend to a medical emergency as defined in this statement, he must respond. This is both an ethical and legal obligation and therefore every doctor should abide. However rare there will be times when attending a medical emergency is impossible or unsafe for the doctor or patient. If a doctor chooses not to attend he or she may be required to defend that decision in the event of a charge of professional misconduct or criminal prosecution. The patient who needs medical attention is therefore catered for and should not be ignored.

A doctor is at risk of being professionally or criminally responsible of the death of a patient if he or she fails to render prompt and appropriate medical care to any person whether the patient is a current patient has just came in, in a medical emergency. A doctor who chooses not to attend must have good reason and be able to defend this position at a later time otherwise he will be charged in a court of law for medical negligence.

However there are situations when a doctor, may or should not attend a medical emergency. These scenarios may include;

  • if he or she is already attending another emergency
  • if it is more appropriate for an emergency service to attend (i.e. ambulance or rescue helicopter);
  • the geographical location of the doctor is such that another doctor or medical service can attend more promptly;
  • if he or she is off duty at the time of the call and has been drinking alcohol or taken medication or other substances to a level that may adversely influence the doctor’s level of competence;
  • If attending the emergency places the personal safety of the doctor at risk.
  • The doctor may also not attend to the patient if he is not in the right state of health himself or when he knows he is not competent enough to help the patient.

EmergencyHowever a doctor should be able to take good care of the patient even if he is not able to offer any reasonable help to the patient. He should be able to assist the patient to access another health center where he can be helped. If a doctor fails to attend to emergency because of matters of inconvenience he will be charged and prosecuted.

Medical access is a necessity to everyone that is why we at AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center are committed to availing help to patients by availing the needed information and offering them a place to call home. Just call on Dr. Dalal Akoury (MD) today and begin your journey to victory against addiction, cancer and other diseases.

Mitochondrial Disease And Ebola

Mitochondrial Disease And Ebola

The basis of mitochondrial disease

At the root of the mitochondrial disease is the manner in which mitochondria, tiny microscopic organelles that are found within the cells of the body, function. The mitochondria are made up of different much smaller structures that include ribosomes, granules and two membranes. The internal structures of the mitochondria are the actual sites where the primary function of the mitochondria, which is formation of energy at the cellular level, takes place.

Through complex biochemical reactions that take place inside the internal structures, mitochondria serve the all important purpose of providing the energy that is needed to maintain the process of life. This takes place in all the body cells.  It is through the process that takes place inside the mitochondria that body cells are able to get all the energy required to drive their vital processes.

At times and for various reasons, the mitochondria may fail in their primary function. This is the basis of mitochondrial disease. When this happens, the mitochondria are unable to provide energy to the body cells. This translates to complicated physiological conditions in the body of a person. It is in the same manner that the possible relationship between the disease and Ebola Virus Disease is being examined. Just as mitochondrial disease makes it easy for other disease to attack an individual, the same may be said about Ebola Virus Disease.

Signs and symptoms of mitochondrial disease

The different signs and symptoms that are manifested by this disease vary from person to person. Furthermore, they all arise from the fact that the disease results from internal damages to the structure of the mitochondria. This makes them unable to produce energy as is the norm, thus leading to direct interference in the manner in which the body cells function. This condition causes a number of signs that appear on the body of the affected person.

mitochondrion

Because of lack of energy, a person may feel fatigued and fall short of breath at all times. Further, the effect of destruction of the mitochondria is usually seen in the form of overall weakness of the muscles and poor coordination of the limbs.

In the case of children, destruction of the mitochondria has adverse effects. First of all, it leads directly to developmental problems in the affected child. A child who has been diagnosed with mitochondrial disease will fail to fully develop mentally and physically. This results to learning problems and other forms of medical conditions which, if not checked, may lead to death.

Breakdown of the mitochondria in the cells of the body may also be manifested in the form of a number of different diseases. For instance, it is common to find persons who have been affected by the disease complaining of problems with the thyroid. Furthermore, some problems such as seizure have been associated with mitochondrial disease.

  • How mitochondrial disease is detected

So far, a single test that can be used to detect this disease has not been developed. However, doctors are able to accurately diagnose its development in an individual with relative ease. This is because the symptoms of the disease are quite observable and unique to it. However, in some cases, a DNA test may be carried out to ascertain the existence of the condition in an individual who is showing symptoms.

  • Treatment options for mitochondrial disease

Getting an effective treatment of mitochondrial disease is not easy. It requires finding a means by which the process of destruction of the structure of the mitochondria is reversed. Currently, there is no particular conventional therapy that has been developed to achieve this objective. Research on how to develop a single drug to reverse the process by which the internal structure of the mitochondria gets damaged as a result of the disease is undergoing.

The fact that there still lacks a single drug that can treat mitochondrial disease does not mean that all is lost. There exist different alternative approaches that are used to counter the effects of the disease. The basic idea behind such approaches is that although it may be difficult to undo the damage to the mitochondria, it is actually possible to tackle the effects of the disease. Effects on the body of het patient such as persistent fatigue, muscle weakness and other physiological conditions can actually be tackled by use of different medical methods.

The alternative approach to treating mitochondrial disease seeks to restore the health of the individual to the best level that is possible. There are several methods that are used to achieve this. Various therapies of vitamins and other nutrients are used to counteract the impact of mitochondrial disease on the bodies of patients. Furthermore, other natural supplements whose efficacy against particular symptoms and effects that are produced by the disease are used to improve the overall health of the patients.

Further, nutritional therapies are usually used to help patients remain healthy. By using a well developed diet, physicians are able to help patients of mitochondrial disease lead healthy and fulfilling lives. Such an approach has proven useful in helping patents attain and maintain a particular level of energy in their bodies, thus reducing the effect of the disease on their lives completely.

Dr. Dalal Akoury of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Centre can help in using natural methods to restore the functioning of the mitochondria. In general, maintaining the mitochondria in good shape translates to overall wellness and health. That is why here at AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Centre, we seek to help our patients achieve overall health through different alternative methods that have been tried and tested. Our methods of treatment work well to complement other conventional methods being used. We believe that taking such an integrative approach to medicine is the way to go.
