Much as it is everyone’s desire to enjoy the maximum comfort, this is not always the case in the day to day life. The problem could further be complicated if one or more members of the family are abusing alcohol or drugs or both. In our series of articles about alcoholism, we want to focus on finding out why hefty alcohol drinking and drug addiction are the major causes of pain in most families. Speaking to the experts from AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center under the able leadership of doctor Dalal Akoury (MD) who is also the founder of this facility, it is evident that alcoholism and drug addiction affects the whole family indiscriminately.

Everyone in the family whether young, teenage, or grown-up children; wives or husbands; brothers or sisters; parents or other relatives and friends all are not immune to the effects of alcohol abuse. That is to say, if one member of the family is addicted to alcohol and drugs, the whole family will suffer the consequences. According to the experts from AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center, an addiction is a family disease that stresses the family to the breaking point thereby impacting on the stability of the home, the family’s unity, mental health, physical health, finances, and overall family dynamics.

From that background, it is evident that without finding timely solutions to any addictive substances, the consequences of that negligence would cause a total disruption to the family life and worst still cause harmful effects that can last a lifetime. Doctor Akoury says that dealing with any kind of addiction is not very easy for various reasons including the fact that no family is born with the knowledge of how to deal effectively with addiction. Because this is not inborn practice, it is however very important those individual users and their loved ones are educated on the skill that must be practiced daily to contain and bring the scourge of addiction to manageable levels. That is why at AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center, we have prioritized creating awareness about all the elements through which alcoholism and drug addiction causes family pain and beyond.

Hefty alcohol drinking and family pain: Obstacles to recovery

This is often a common question more so with people taking care of victims like for instance one may ask “why do I need help? She is the problem.” Have you ever said something like that? One of the biggest challenges to family recovery is the belief that everything will be ok by just fixing their loved one who is addicted to alcohol or drugs. After all, “she’s the one who needs help, not me!” that is very easy to say but professionally doctor Akoury says that helping families understand that just as the addict is responsible for their own recovery they too are responsible for their own recovery. One fact must be put straight and that is the whole family must be in this together without excluding the children. Remember that addiction in the family strains relationships and people are likely to become anxious and tired. Rejuvenating brain health: Finding solutions of addiction from the brain

Life is directly connected to the brain. The moment the brain stops, death is registered. Life is not all about the heart beating but is all about rejuvenating brain health. Any distortion of the brain’s health brings all other things to a halt. To understand this better, we want to share with you the importance of keeping our brains’ healthy as a solution to drug addiction. As we engage the services of addiction expert doctor Dalal Akoury (MD) President and founder of AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center, let us take this journey together for the good of all of us. This facility was formed out of the deepest concern doctor Dalal Akoury after seeing and attending to many addicts of different substances. You can become a part of the solution to this problem by calling doctor Dalal Akoury for a more in-depth and professional redress.

Doctor Akoury reiterates that the concerns of many people are that for any addictive behavior, a good place to start the journey of recovery is and should always be at the end of your fork. Remember that any effort towards beating an addiction and staying committed to sustained recovery will heavily depend on your optimal and perfection of your mental health, besides that there is scientific evidence that your mental health will be affected powerfully by what you feed on. A path to recovery from destructive addictions, including those to drugs, alcohol, compulsive eating or gambling, could start at your next meal. It is therefore very important that no time is wasted in dealing with all manner of addiction. The moment you notice signs of addiction, it is only fear that you seek treatment immediately before it is too late to make any significance change.

Rejuvenating brain health: Effects of relapse

Over the decades working with patients, I have seen how the 12-step approach can be very effective when the patient is willing to recover. Alongside that, I have also established that without dietary changes being implemented on the part of the victim, any attempt of abstinence and recovery is needlessly more vulnerable to relapse. At the heart of the problem are a new set of dietary choices. And because many people are currently feeding on highly-processed foods, foods which are not originally designed by nature but designed in the laboratories, this can cause life to be very complicated in the long run. Remember that the main ingredients of such foods are sugar, refined carbohydrates, and vegetable oils and besides, the producers of such foods have designed them primary to taste good and appealing to the eye for the purpose of luring the client into more consumption that is to say they are more of profit oriented than health.

Professionally doctor Akoury is of the opinion that feeding on this kind of food will only succeed in lighting up the same pleasure-rewards areas in our brains that are activated by drugs like cocaine and heroin as well as by a variety of addictive behaviors. Ingesting dopamine-triggering foods, in other words, subjecting your brain to the ups and downs, highs and lows, of any addictive substance or activity since you are stirring the same neurochemical pot (no pun intended).

Taking hazardous drugs and alcohol

Taking hazardous drugs

Taking hazardous drugs and alcohol is paving the way for health catastrophic events

Taking hazardous drugs and alcohol: Marijuana and Other Drugs

Have you ever known that by taking hazardous drugs together with alcohol, you are endangering your own life? Take for instances, marijuana can prevent you from feeling nauseous or from throwing up, meaning that it can potentially prevent you from throwing up alcohol if your body needs to. This can make the extra alcohol stay in your body and may cause alcohol poisoning. The mixture of these two drugs can cause a number of effects on the body including:

  • Feeling like you’re spinning
  • Paranoia
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Throwing up
  • Trouble using your body

Taking hazardous drugs and alcohol: Alcohol and prescription drugs

Whether or not you have a prescription for a prescription medication, mixing it with alcohol can be dangerous. It’s important to talk to your doctor about whether you can have alcohol with your prescription medicines, and if so, if you should limit the use to a certain amount. If you are using a prescription medication that wasn’t prescribed to you or using it in a way that it wasn’t prescribed for, you are abusing the medication. Compounding this abuse with drinking alcohol only magnifies the risks of the abusive behavior.

Alcohol shouldn’t be mixed with most prescription medications because the combination can lead to severe side effects. Although you should specifically check on any medication you are taking, some medications that can cause a problem with alcohol include:

  • Painkillers like aspirin and acetaminophen
  • Antihistamines
  • Central nervous system depressants, like sleep medications, sedatives, and drugs for anxiety
  • Antidepressants, like Elavil, Sinequan and MAO inhibitors
  • Diabetes drugs
  • Drugs for infection, including antibiotics
  • Many specific medications, including Catapres for high blood pressure, Verapamil for chest pain, Tagamet for gastrointestinal issues, and Adderall for ADHD or narcolepsy

Taking hazardous drugs and alcohol: Additional drugs that can mix badly with alcohol

There is an endless list of drugs that can have negative effects on your body when you take them with alcohol. Some of the many that you should be cautious about include Amphetamines, Mushrooms, Ecstasy, Caffeine, LSD, GHB, and PCP. The list is actually endless meaning that what we have here may not be as conclusive as it should be. In this regard doctor, Akoury recommends that everyone must ensure that they are aware of all the potential consequences of drinking alcohol while taking any kind of drug irrespective of whether it’s a prescription drug or an illegal street drug.

Finally, dear reader, this is not something that you can comfortably handle on your own without the help of the experts. Therefore if you or anyone you know is struggling with alcohol or any other drug or both at the same time, we will always be there for you at AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center. Cocaine addiction triggers

Cocaine addiction triggers

Cocaine addiction triggers must be avoided if we have to succeed in bringing this problem to manageable levels

Cocaine addiction triggers: Mindset sensitivity about cocaine addiction

From the mindset sensitivity of cocaine addiction the next point to focus on would be the identifying triggers to the substance of abuse and for our case, we are talking about cocaine addiction triggers. It is important that therapists should work very closely with their patients to develop a comprehensive list of their own triggers. Some patients become overwhelmed when asked to identify cues. From experience doctor, Akoury says that when handling addicts, you will notice that someone may even associate breathing with cocaine use. Again, it may be most helpful therefore to concentrate on identifying the craving and cues that have been most problematic to the patient in recent weeks. This should commence immediately during the therapy session and this should include self-monitoring of craving so that patients can begin to identify new and more subtle cues as they arise.

Cocaine addiction triggers: Avoiding cues

When considering the avoidance of cues, it is always advisable that you keep in mind the general strategy of “recognize, avoid, and cope.” These strategies are particularly applicable to the craving for all substances and not necessarily cocaine. Doctor Akoury says that real experts would first identify the patients’ most problematic cues then make an exploration of the degree to which some of those could be avoided. This will come with certain sacrifices including breaking ties or reducing contact with individuals who use or supply you with cocaine, getting rid of paraphernalia, staying out of bars or other places where cocaine is used, or no longer carry money, as in the following example:

Finally, in dealing with the perception of the mind about cocaine addiction one needs not to let any stone unturned. I am saying this because we are all aware that cocaine is an illegal substance but other substances like alcohol which are legal can form a perfect avenue for the consumption of cocaine without being noticed. Besides that, the ability to pay for the substance is another point of consideration. When the financial strength allows users to access cocaine could easily form a solution in an alcoholic drink. Therefore experts from AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center recommends that for any meaningful treatment to be realized, therapists and other professionals in the line of substance abuse must spend considerable time exploring the relationship between alcohol and cocaine with patients who use them together to such an extent that alcohol becomes a powerful cocaine cue. Specific strategies to reduce, or preferably, stop alcohol use should be explored. We appreciate that doing this may not be easy for many people and that is why doctor Akoury will be readily available on call for you to schedule an appointment so that any pending or unclear issues relating to addiction can be attended to professionally.

Childhood substance abuse: Don’t give up hope

The fight against drug abuse will not warn until we recognized and address childhood substance abuse from the very beginning. I must agree that it is not a good experience to go through and that is why as professionals from AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center under the leadership of Doctor Dalal Akoury MD we want to share with you some experiences other parents have gone through in dealing with child addiction to alcohol and drug addiction. As a veteran addiction expert doctor Akoury will be sharing with our experiences of past clients so that we can develop the culture of learning from other parents about children addiction.

Over the past two decades, doctor Akoury has been very instrumental in offering solutions to all people across the globe and in her experience, she came across one client whose story will be very useful for many parents with addicted children. According to this client, about five years ago their son was 27-year-old and was so much addicted to alcohol drinking that finally led to the usage of other strong drugs (cocaine to be specific). For more than one year they were in the dark about his new habit until he was out of control and that is when he lost his job this really caught our pants down because of his life and that of our grandson the client said. We could not believe how ignorant and blind we were until it all started to make sense when our son was consistently broke, weird phone calls, not showing up for family events, his actions, and his physical appearance. At this point, the reality down on us and we tried to help him by enrolling him in treatment programs one after the other. It was difficult because the response was very discouraging but we kept telling him how much we loved him. In solidarity, we began attending recovery meetings.

Childhood substance abuse: Learning the consequences of addiction the hard way

To cut the long story short it reached a point when we realized that it was beyond our control and we were prepared for the worst but even as we were in that situation, we still told him how much we loved him even though at this time we also needed to take care of ourselves. And so very painfully we detached with love. Our house was still open for him and he would come for meals and to shower but he could not live with us anymore, nor would we give him any financial assistance. As fate would have it he who was never taught by his parents would be taught by the world and so he was arrested and we did not bail him out. He was so angry with us, but we still maintained our love for him. He was sentenced to go to a treatment program. He had only the clothes on his back, not even a pair of shoes, and it was winter. We did not give him anything but told him to call when he was settled in his new home and that we still loved him. At this point, he knew he was losing his family and possibly his son. That was about four years ago. Today our son has gone through treatment, is working on a recovery program and has custody of his son. We all take it a day at a time. We want to thank doctor Dalal Akoury and her team of experts at AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource Center for their professional insight that has brought transformation to our son even if it was through the hard way. You can make yours easier by contacting doctor Akoury today.
